Rone 1057 movement service

Recommended Posts

Hi,

For my first project I have a Rone watch with a 1057 movement. It runs face down but stops when turned face up. I suspect (and hope) it just needs the balance jewel lubricating. However, it is held in place by a star shaped holder that I cannot find any information on how to remove (picture attached). Can anyone ofcer any help).

Thanks

Rog

Hi there,

You need to unscrew the 2 screws with the arrows (heads on the other side of the cock). Wish You luck, but probably only cleaning and lubrication will not solve the problem.

This points to a broken pivot.

With an oiler gently lift one side of balance wheel as you keep an eye on pivots, in case a pivot don't stay in jewel hole its broken.

Better yet is detaching balance complete from the cock and show a close up side view of pivots.

Thanks for the help. I took the bridge including the spring and balance wheel off. I could then see the screw heads on the underside. I'll see what I find regarding the condition of the pivot itself.

The pivot was okay. Unfortunately I damaged the hairsping when struggling to get the two small screws back in. Next time I think it would be better to take the balance wheel assembly off. Got a new assembly coming so should be fine. All part of learning I guess.

You also happen to pick a bit of a weird construction.

Not knowing where you are on this planet, but you could try to find a few cheap Vostok movements (2409 or 2414) to learn on. The are cheap to get and the world is full of spare-parts.

How could you have damaged the hairspring if balance complete was detached from the cock?

Balance detached first, little screws next.

Are we learning the proper / safe   aproach to tasks , or looking for cheap watches to break.

Whenever you suspect such lubrication issue,   drop a bit of lighter fluid on capstone,  it finds its way to the hole jewel , next a puff of air to get the balance turn,  then balance usually thanks you and oscilates.

Plus, Vostok movements are Swiss in their construction, so nothing odd about being Russian! Everything you learn when working on cheap Vostok movements can be applied when working on the more expensive Swiss movements such as ETA, Sellita, Unitas, Omega, Peseux, and so on.

Wostok movements are 2605, 2809, 2209 (22XX) and 2409 (24XX) and they appeared in this order. Only 2809 is a modified clone of Zenith 135 as I remember. 2605 is Pobeda modification, and Pobeda is clone of french Lip R26. 22XX and 24XX are pure russian development.

I didn't know that, thanks! My point was that in principle Vostok movements function exactly as the Swiss movements I mentioned. So, no need to refrain from Vostok for being some type of odd Russian construction.
