Hi to all my Horology fans. I'm a 76 yr old salty dog retired/disabled U.S. Marine combat Veteran (2 tours to that paradise known as "The Nam"). I started my collecting disease at the very ripe age of 14. I had a fascination with taking an old beater watch, bringing it back to life and giving it as much of a face-lift as I could with my limited resources and knowledge. My "disease" grew to include coins, banknotes, postcards, and military items. I retired 20 years ago with my Filipina wife to the Philippines and dragged a very large collection of "you name its" with me. It only grew here, until I started trying to downsize around 13 years ago on fleabay. I now feel the urgency growing by the day to dispose of as much as I possibly can before I take "The Long Dirt Nap" (I'm Sicilian). My lovely wife is 20 yrs my junior, yet has NO desire to have all this responsibility left to her when she has ZERO knowledge of any of it and in fact, doesn't even know how to turn a computer on! So there is my dilemma. Several thousand coins, banknotes and postcards as well as around 400 watches and around 200 movements (what I mainly sell on fleabay). There it is. My life in a nutshell. SEMPER FI!

Welcome. That sounds like quite a collection. You are among folks with the same…affliction. I see some interesting watches for sale at auction from where you are from time to time…

I’m near Beaufort- perhaps you’ve been through this way at one time? Do  you have a watch you may have picked up at a BX/PX? I suspect that’s how a lot of guys get the horology bug…

Hi, Sir!  Are you still based in the Philippines.  Hopefully we can have coffee one of these days, share experiences in watch repair, and see your collection of watches.  happy holidays!

    • Er yeah, not quite sure how to respond to that one Mark 😅. But yes i fully appreciate what you have done here today. I look at it like this, i dont know if you have children Mark,  i have a son and a daughter both around 30 years old but still my babies. I remind them every couple of months, " if something happens to me, i get run over by a bus, i have a heart attack while out running, I eat a very dodgy burger, you know where the spare hidden house keys are dont you, you know where the stashes of money are don't you, you know the things i have that are valuable don't you, you know how to deal with my finances don't you, you know the value of my watchroom and where the value lists of all the tools and watch collections i have are dont you, dont mess it up and dont get ripped off i want you to be rich when I'm gone "  This forum is your baby Mark, i dont think i need to say any more. Appreciate your time Mark, live long and prosper matey 🖖 Oh my flipping god, who's old enough to remember when the Iron lady came to power, i remember the old bag took my morning milk away from me. So I'm only going to ask you this once Rich  " where is Ross and where is Nucejoe and what have you done with them " Ross my allstar and Nucejoe one of my wingmen, i aint happy Rich not happy at all.
    • Thanks Richard - Send me a PM - we shall discuss and get you set up 👍
    • It's a good point, we really love the forum and are scared of losing it. @Mark do you mind if we exchange contact details?  What happens if you don't wake up in the morning? Hopefully not but @Neverenoughwatches is correct, who knows. Could the site be passed on to someone else? It would be a  travesty to loose contact with each other and also so much information.  Please note, the question arised because we care so much.  We wish that you will live for ever but none of us will.  Beat me too it.
    • As long as it’s legal and not spamming, information shared in private messaging between two consenting members is no concern of mine matey 👍 this isn’t eBay 🤣
