I bought my dream watch in 2014, a Breitling Lady Colt (the one with no diamonds) I wore it with pride and loved it. It was sent to Breitling once per year for the annual cleaning and adjustments for the first 2 years. I moved in 2017 and the cost of sending it off to be cleaned was getting too expensive so I found a local, family owned and run watch maker who'd been in business since the 1800s to put a new battery in it and clean it. All was well until 2019 and the battery only lasted 6 months. The master watchman said it was the movement that needed to be changed, he contacted Breitling and they wouldn't sell him one because he wasn't an authorized repair center. I bought a new watch to get me by, nothing like the Breitling, but it worked. My question is; can a movement from another watch be used in a Breiltling? I really love that watch, the color, the weight, the fit. Or, can an automatic movement be put into the Breitling? My husband only owns automatic watches and swears by them. I was paying close to $200.00 each time I sent the watch to Breitling to be cleaned, battery changed. I am sure the cost of replacing the movement with something original is going to put me back close to a grand if they even have it anymore. I've checked the website and they don't sell the Colt anymore. The Lady Colt wasn't the most expensive watch they made, but it was Swiss made and I sure would love to wear it again. Thanks!

Hi Julie, it is unlikely you would be able to have a different movement fit this. Doubtful a watch repairer would want to spend the time on a complicated replacement if it were even possible. Though this sort of project can appeal to guys here on the forum . One of my friends wife's has the same watch with the diamonds, and it is a beautiful watch. From a little research the calibre is a Breitling superquartz 77 or possibly 74, one i suspect is a chronograph and one a 3 hand. Based on an eta 955.652 , 956.652 but your watchman should confirm this for you before you try to search one out. Some other forums say difficult to aquire. Parts of the movement will be repairable, the coil and the gearing, possibly parts of the circuit board tracing. The only part non repairable will be the cmos. Your only option without having to spend a lot of money with Breitling is to find a repairer willing to correctly diagnose the movement fault and attempt a repair once you have aquired any parts needed. Good luck Julie , please let us know how you get on. We will help here if we can.

Hi watch weasol hope you are well matey.  I came across both those 2 calibres but also a 77 was mentioned. I wasn't sure they were all ladies calibres. Good sourcing info for Julie, its a lovely watch i hope she can have it fixed.  There must be dozens of guys here that could handle something like this.

    • isn't it nice to have a decent case open or when the case doesn't want to be opened? In the case of a Rolex watch that supposed to pass specific water resistant testing you probably do need to tighten the back down. But they shouldn't be tightened so much that they risk stripping the threads out. Then the other problem that comes up is the gaskets can start to disintegrate and then getting the back off can be quite a challenge unless you have a really good tool and perhaps some penetrating oil to loosen things up. Yes really nice case marking. When I was in school we were taught to mark the cases and  the American watch and clockmakers Institute even had a? So if you joined at one time they would give you an identification number. They were explaining or giving an example of if the watches ever found in you have a unique number they can perhaps figure out the history of the watch or identify the body it's attached to for instance not that that probably comes up that often. So you got a unique number and even made a special metal stamp that you can purchase. It wasn't a super big aggressive stamp but still it left a mark in the back of the case. Then I heard from people at work on Rolex watches they were using a felt pen indelible but later on they decided that was bad because apparently the ink could release  chemicals although it seems like once it's dry that shouldn't be an issue. Then of course today was nice is you can keep computer records sealed have to mark anything at all I personally find it's best to leave no reference behind that you were even there. Especially when you have a beautiful watch that has no markings at all and now it has your scribbling all over it not good typically if there is a typical and watch repair?  a lot of minor repairs you don't need to do a complete servicing. But beyond a certain point you're going to have to take apart a lot of stuff you're going to disrupt the lubrication even if it looks perfect right now and yes you might as well just go ahead the service the whole thing. also in a watch like this where a lot of things seem to be going on the complete service would be better then you'll know exactly where you stand versus dealing with unknown mysteries for prior repair.
    • That Island looks pretty good on the pics I found. Must be nice to live there. Welcome! Are there many watchmakers over there?
    • I believe so. I thought about it the last time.
    • Could you fit a sapphire crystal? My 'daily wearer' Breitling Aerospace is 22 years old and there isn't a mark on the sapphire crystal.
    • Oh that's neat. I typically use a thin strap of rodico laid over the pallet fork to affix it to the upper plate but it can be hard to retrieve sometimes. And as I did more research, I may have just found your own earlier explanation: https://learntimeonline.com/forums/topic/potence-clip-for-full-plate-p-ws/
