Hallo all together,

I'm Gerald from Hamburg and on the quest for a new hobby. Maybe looking into old watches could be something? But just trying out with some basic tools and a broken pocketwatch from eBay does not help much. There are already questions. That brought me here. Hopefully you can help?

Willkommen!!!  We are glad you found us!  You will learn many things here; so many experienced people to answer your questions.  And, if one has time to search, many questions have their answers in the past discussions of the forum.  I have dug up many answers there.
And sometimes a timepiece will bring a mystery to us all, and we all end up learning something together.  That's always fun.
These little mechanisms can challenge you in new ways.  And the tools can be more expensive as you become more deeply involved in this work. Some of us have even posted advice on how to make certain tools.  That is also part of the fun, I think.
Never be shy about posting pictures.  We love looking at watches!  And pictures, good clear ones, help us to help you with your questions.  Good pictures of a beautiful watch, for watchmakers, are like bait to fish.  They will draw us near, and suddenly you will have many of us all around, looking at them.

Thanks for the intro @Lomingen welcome to the WRT forum! I'm also relatively new and I'm in the middle of my first service of an Elgin Grade 313 movement which has been stalled for a while as I was waiting for oil and a mainspring winder. Well, my oil arrived today and luckily I picked up an identical 2nd movement so as I disassemble that one it will help me remember how to re-assemble the first one! I've posted some shots of my watches here.
