Watch running minutes fast per day after service

Recommended Posts

Here’s some pics of the balance it’s concentric and flat. I’ve demagnetized it several times with the back off the case. And I’ve dipped it in naphta to dissolve any oil that may have got on it. But I put it on timegrapher and it was still fast and erratic. Sometimes it’s -2 seconds per day dial down and it will jump to 90seconds per day dial down. Then dial up it jumps from 250 seconds per day to 350 seconds per day. Amplitude is good 250 -300degrees. Beat error 0-0.5ms. I’ve cleaned and oiled it good and got the balance flat and concentric. Any help is much appreciated.  How long was the period of your observance on TG ?     if you run it longer, you might see a peroid to fluctuations which can correspond to a wheel in the gear train.

Will you also show graphic displays in six positions.

Roller jewel was secure. Pivots also good, jewels good.I found out something interesting today though and think it’s the culprit. Today I put my iPhone on slow motion and recording through my 10x loupe I noticed that the hairspring was bouncing it would coil in and when coiling out it bounced is if the coils are sticking and then releasing. I thought about it and the jar that I used might not have been clean as I thought. I put clean naphtha in it.so later I’ll take a sterile jar and clean hairspring again.

Naphta from the hardware store it's not an horological product just like lighter fuel isn't either, despite its widespread use. Especially for the balance, something pure and highly degreasing is needed, e.g. petroleoum ether of certified purity, or trichloroethylene. that's one-dip old formulation, yes we all know that's  carginogen, but it's the part that has to be briefly exposed to it, not yourself.

Well after i dipped the balance several times in naphtha the only thing I have on hand at the moment with no change.I looked throughly with my loupe while the watch was running and noticed the bouncing was coming from the hairspring hitting the center wheel which is hard to see on this movement because the fourth wheel sits on top of the center wheel and actually the fourth wheel pinion goes through the center wheel pinion. But I tweaked the hairspring so it doesn’t hit the center wheel but also doesn’t go so far down that it would touch the balance arm either. Here’s some pictures of dial up and dial down and I’m satisfied that it at least runs a lot better. Thanks for everyone’s help.FF3FA179-59BA-4243-877B-6323DD2B1A19.thumb.jpeg.15c1cd09045b303c229bdf8d97c8aaed.jpeg6AE73D47-FBBA-45F7-A079-3D538C4D0A8D.thumb.jpeg.1a476a5c0bd31cddf43823aa949ddd5d.jpeg
