Hi, all. I'm a retired federal civil service electronics engineer who has always been interested in things mechanical.
My first venture into timepiece repair was about forty-five years ago. I attended a community class on clock repair where I successfully disassembled, cleaned and reassembled a 100+ year old Jerome wooden-works mantle clock that's been in the family for generations.
I also serviced my wife's grandfather clock soon after. It now needs some more TLC, so I'll probably work on that first. I let repair go after that but always had a soft spot for watches.
Last year I gathered together a few watches I had collected over the years and bought some tools so I could at least replace the batteries in them.
This year (2022) I'll be buying a few more tools and try completely servicing watches. I've bought a Waltham pocket watch movement to practice on soon and, inspired by Nick Hacko's instructions for the 7S26, there's a Seiko 5 coming in the mail right now.
