Afternoon From The Little Welsh Man.

Signed up the other day and received a warm welcome form Mark and recently Geo so it must be time for me to introduce myself.

I’m based in East Anglia in the UK. My other interests include maintaining and restoring my old motor Cycles, and while I still enjoy getting the spanners out, it’s a welcomed break from my occupation in Software Support, I’ve got to the time in life where working in under heated garages is no longer as pleasurable as it once was. Far better to do something similar in the warmth of the kitchen!

Pretty new to watchmaking, I’ve always been interested in mechanical watches though, Since the New Year, I’ve concentrated on vintage Roamer movements. Just like my old bikes, I can look at them and work out how they worked with no major complications and are well enough made to fit back together without distorting things by clumsiness.

With a lot of patience, time and reference to this Forum and especially Marks Videos, I’ve managed to turn the few that I’ve worked on from non runners or start stoppers to movements that run and keep “reasonable time”.

Still early days and looking forward to learning more so there will be a few of the inevitable daft questions from me while I learn.

Thanks.

Nigel

Early Roamers are great watches - I have several - all with good, solid movements. When I started buying them on eBay and in auctions some years ago, they were easy to pick up at reasonable prices, but half-decent ones have risen in price now. The word must have got round!
