Hair spring for AS 1187 movement

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've try to fixe the hair spring unfortunately it broke

Is anybody know where can I find another one or if I can use another one instead ?

I've already check on ebay there is only 1 but I'm not going to invest 32 Euro for 1 hair spring (it's insane)

Thanks

It,l be nice if you can find a donor,  a hairspring  can be salavaged off of a scrap balance complete with which  you have a chance to build your new balance complete.

Dr ranffts list the entire family of AS1187 calibers, hairspring off of any of those is sure to have the same CGS as 1187, it fits onto your balance wheel, your new balance complete  usually beats at the right rate, occasionaly you find  the donor too short which runs the oscilator too fast and sometimes springs are longer which you can cut to get the right beat out of your new balance complete.

Vibrating hairspring with balance wheel is very useful task to master when you work on vintage or antique watches, since old stocks are destined to run dry and have already in some cases.

A hairspring even off of an AS 1187 might not vibrating with your wheel as is,   in which case you would need to remove material off of the rim or file balance screws.

The preferred choice would be balance complete. But, and I have a list of parts for this watch at the link below the but part is there appear to be a whole bunch of different balance completes? See you can't just randomly pick one you have to have the same one or same type that is in the yours.

Then as pointed out above Finding a hairspring only and having it worked perfect with your balance wheel is unlikely without a lot of work. Because traditionally hairsprings come with the balance wheel there on and they really don't like to be swapped around.

I have checked through my stash some AS hairsprings are marked in lignes. But that is not always correct. Hairsprings are now a difficult problem when needing a replacement when they come up on eBay I purchase but despite a reasonable collection I never seem to have one that fits.

This part of my hairspring collection.

USD or Euro

The list came from the link below. You'll notice if you look the link below it does point out that that the database is out of date and I'm guessing specifically that means the prices. It's why you have to take the numbers and then go to their home page and paste them in and see if they come up as in stock and what the current price is. Then as it's a US company it's probably an dollars at least that's what I always assumed it was.
