Question for all of you horologists

Good afternoon all! I will be right out with it and let you know that I know basically nothing about watches, clocks, or how to repair or make them. There have always been watches, pocket watches, wall clocks, and pretty much anything that keeps time around my whole life though. Well my Grandfather on the other hand must of been quite good at it. I believe he went to school for it in the 50’s. So the reasoning behind my post today, is that I have a garage full of brand new parts and pieces to probably every watch brand that ever existed. What should I do with these items? Attempt to sell them? I feel like throwing them away would be a terrible waste! I just have absolutely no idea what most of it is or what any of it would potentially be worth. I will attach a few pictures of a couple of the drawers and items. If you all would please give me some feed back, I would be extremely appreciative!!! Sorry for the long post and I hope everyone has a great weekend!!
Thanks!!!

Wow, that looks like quite a treasure trove! I'm relatively new to this (I'm sure those more experienced will weigh in), but I believe what you have is quite valuable, not just in terms of dollars, but in terms of providing parts to those who can make use of them. You can probably sell the whole lot to a retailer who specializes in vintage parts and there are many of them on Ebay, but you may have to do some cataloguing to provide some sense of what you have. Maybe one or more of the members would be interested. I sure you'll get some helpful suggestions.

Those of us on this forum who are interested in vintage and antique watches have a vested interest in helping you sell these items.  The grouping suggestion is probably the best option for someone not interested in spending the rest of their life selling these parts.  If you decide to go this route, please post your ebay account name here so that we can all follow your auctions.

Good luck.

Thank you for your support!! I am currently selling some of the watches I have found on eBay currently. Again, unfortunately I have very little knowledge of what I’m selling. Thanks again for all your support!! I will definitely give you all a heads up on any auction items!
ebay: Cicely3

Thanks!

    • Thank you for your introduction and welcome to this friendly forum. We all look forward to your contributions and continued involvement.
    • Drat and double drat i was looking forward to the royalties on that idea.
    • Compression Spring Various Size. This might be helpful. I have watch furniture restorers and how they go about this problem, they inject glue underneath with a syringe and clamp it, leave over night. Next day remove clamp and it smooth. You could use an iron but be careful not to burn the wood.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265697329513?chn=ps&_ul=GB&var=565484998457&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1jd_-94ilTHWZLQ3PxHeC1A73&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=565484998457_265697329513&targetid=1647205088320&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1006662&poi=&campaignid=17206177401&mkgroupid=136851690655&rlsatarget=pla-1647205088320&abcId=9300866&merchantid=119334104&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwir2xBhC_ARIsAMTXk849TnBArEYdgv1DpHf_somCZYmB7ViqD3UtvNJJc_dn4kj0AFxBXngaArSAEALw_wcB
    • 🤣 i think your first statement is rather dramatic, but i will take it in good humour.  I think the thread speaks for itself John.  What we are aiming for and when i say we, thats not actually that many that have spoke up. Is to have a back up plan to keep members in touch in case the forum ever disappears. So in essence yes the group has maybe taken on a life of its own and would like to remain together forever ( 🤣 i can also be dramatic )  maybe more members need to give some input of how they feel about it or say they are just not that bothered.  Either way at least the question gets answered. Can i ask what the forum means to you and how you would feel without it ? Thats one answer Rich from one person, without knowing how others feel the thread was just a waste of time. Aw Rich are you saying you'd miss me ? I'm touched 🙂
