Omega Chronostop Case

Hi everyone!  So I’ve just picked up my first Omega and to be honest I am very excited to start this project!  It’s an Omega Chronostop with a broken balance and tangles mainspring but otherwise mechanically seems in good shape.  I’ve accumulated all the pieces necessary to do the repair mechanically so now I’m on to the case.  I’d like to get it restored back to original but not quite sure where to go. I brought the case in to my nearest Omega dealer and they said it could not be sent to a service centre to be re-done as I dont have any original paperwork.  Since there is a sunburst finish on the case a lapping machine would be ideal.  Can a person send in a case independently from a dealer to Omega?  If not, can anyone recommend a case restorer that could bring it back close to original finishes?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did I read that correctly, omega said that they wouldn't service it because you didn't have any original paperwork.

As for the case refer, there is loads of people all over the world doing it.

As for it as it stands, I had one in a similar condition, I cleaned it serviced it gave the case a polish and its looking good, no original paperwork needed...

Only the entire watch. Omega lists service (high) prices on their website, for the rest they would give a stellar estimate. There are very few high level case refurbisher around.

Thanks AlexiJ1 for the recommendation and everyone else for the input.  Replateit.com did come up during my search and I was hoping someone here would mention their quality of work.  I think I have decided I will send it to Lewis Watch Co. in Australia, his work looks exceptional from what I've seen.  antonyh, yes they said they would not accept it due to no original paperwork.

That is big BS, papers are never a requirement and it would be unreasonable to expect everyone has them. They were cherry picking work and come up with an excuse to send you away.

Hey everyone!  So I thought I would follow up on the progress of this project.  I got the case back from being refinished and it turned out really well!  I gave the movement a once over and a service as it obviously has had a fairly rough life.  There were a number of broken wheels, particularly the chronograph runner and drive wheel, 4th wheel pivot was bent and  the hairspring was torn and the balance pivots where both broken.  Topped it all off with a new crystal and this is the finished product.

    • Thanks everyone for the replies. It seems setting the hand is a bit of a guessing game, and I thought there would be a very specific way to do it. Since the reserve indicator hand moves clockwise as the spring is wound, I tried setting it right at the start of the black side. But setting it there doesn't really make sense, because by the time the spring is halfway wound, the hand is only at the end of the red side... In my head halfway wound shouldn't mean the hand is still "in the red."
    • Lovely part of the country! I spend most of my days driving along the A64 for work in and around York. I'll be sure to drop plenty of questions soon! I've actually got a couple of watches on the way that I'm pretty sure I'll need some help with! They look pretty beat up from the pics but I love a challenge and an excuse to buy more tools 🤣
    • I have two of these in my home. You need to remove the movement from the case, take off the hands and remove the dial and take a few good photos of the front plate so I can see what the problem is. The round nut unscrews and the hands pull off pull them off from the center and not the tips as you could break them.
    • I asked the question of one of the sellers. Its for removing the pins and making the holes in motorbike drive belts. God knows why they were both in two seperate joblots of watchmaking tool, thats bizarre. I haven't posted your setting lever steel yet mike, been busy with my mum past few days and had a locked myself in at home lazy watch repair day today 🙂 but I'm out tomorrow so i will get it off to you then.
    • Hi everyone, I tried looking for answers on this online but came up with nothing, so I'm hoping some of you knowledgeable people might be able to help. I have an Elliot clock that has been in my family for at least 4 generations. I recently enherited it, and I'm trying to get it to run properly again, as it's been neglected a bit.  Here,s the problem. These clocks have a silencer mechanism, which is supposed to stop it from chiming between 11PM and 7AM but for some reason mine is silent between 1AM and 9AM. I have tried figuring out how to adjust it but have not managed. Does anyone have any idea on how to correct this? Please find attached some pictures of the clock. Thank you!
