Has anyone make a Skeleton faced watch?

Had the idea pop in my head and did a few quick “Make your own skeleton watch dial”, ect. And tried searching here to no matching topics.

So has anyone made a skeleton faced dial? How difficult was/could it be? Is it even possible to find the right parts?

You need to be good with lhe piercing saw and micro files. Try on scrap dial to get an idea.

    i have known collectors that  have bought them.     beautifully    made jobs!    BUT  can't sell them.    sad.

You could try in a lathe,  that’s where I would start , at least then you can get a nice clean cut

How you can pierce in a lathe?

well;  you can  drill holes (drill press might be better)  and then join then with some presission fileing.    vin

An alternative suggestion would be to etch the brass rather than cut it. This would take a little more prep work, and would still require finishing by hand, but you should be able to get some very fine detail that way with a little practice.

Sorry, I thought you just wanted to cut the centre out of the dial to expose the movement, like some of the modern Rotary gents watches

I've often thought of trying the www.ponoko.com service. They can laser-cut and laser-engrave brass. It wouldn't have the craftsmanship and character of a hand-made cut but would be easier to get some crazy designs. I've got enough other projects going on that I haven't tried it yet though.

You can cut most anything on a scrollsaw.
