Perhaps they've already gotten bit by picky watch folks in the past and just don't want the potential headache as OH said. Many jewelers now can do laser welding but that won't be as strong as soldering on this job.

The little slotted gages are kind if sketchy, one of my teachers called them "pivot breaking tool". But for small diameters, say under .13mm or so, a micrometer poses a real threat of making tiny flats on the pivot even with a very light touch. Best is jeweled hole gages, available in .01mm, .005mm, and .0025mm increments. Without those you can get close using a micrometer and then use the actual jewel as a gage, look for about 5° of "tilt" for the correct freedom. The drive finger is often a pair but a single one works fine.

Ok, I mount my soldering gun on a stand and heat up the screw only with it. Meawhile fix a jar of cold water mix with bunch of ice cubes. The water cools down as the screw heats up, at highest temp I drop quench the plate in the water. Reheat the plate let cool down to room temp, drop penetrating oil on the screw, come back next day to attack the mess I done made. If it didn,t work, I blame it on vinn. Regqrds joe
