  2. Hello everyone, I would like to open this topic (I didn’t find it in the forum) dedicated to sunburst dials. Here I will post any information I find for these dials which I find for useful. Also I would like to ask you if you have any knowledge, links, info etc. about techniques for producing of these beautiful pieces of art. For me the dial is that element that gives most for the overall look of the watch. Creating beautiful and stylish dial I find really for kind of art. So any info (but also for other dial painting and effects techniques) are appreciated. Best regards, Martin,

  3. I got this Seiko 6139-6002 for pennies on the dollar albeit it was not working, in poor physical condition and with missing and damaged parts. I used after-market parts to “restore” this watch to a portion of its lost glory. This will go down as one of my favorite repair and restoration projects.

  4. .....with a face only a mother could love. i picked this up in a lot of five watches. this watch was the reason that i bid on the lot. it's a typical seventies, conspicuous consumption, bigger than life watch. i wonder if something else goes around the face of it - an insert of some kind. i'm not sure. anyway, it is not attractive - which is why it attracted me. it has a blue dial which is pretty much perfect - as is the case. there are no large dents in it and it still has very fine brush marks on the finish. it has lead an easy life. which makes me the madder that someone messed with the caseback. i can't tell the year of manufacture because someone sterilized the case back. so i popped it open figuring that the innards would be a mess and got a pleasant surprise. this movement shined like the sun. the pics don't even do it justice. it's almost a pale gold color. very attractive. it seems to have a low beat to it - like it needs a good cleaning or something. anyway, here it is. i'll post more pics when i clean it up a bit.

  5. TIMEZONE WATCH SCHOOL LEVEL 1 PART 3 (BALANCE ASSEMBLY & PALLET LEVER) After turning the movement over now is the moment I've been dreading, Removing the balance ! The reason for me not looking forward to this part is because when I last attempted this part about 3 years ago I lost my temper which resulted in me ruining the hairspring which quickly progressed into me throwing the movement in to the bin (stupid I know!) and putting the tools I had bought on ebay and walking away from the hobby. With this in mind and determined not to let history repeat itself I turned the movement over, took a deep breath and started to unscrew the single screw that holds the balance cock in place. Once unscrewed it was time to try and remove the balance cock with attached balance wheel and hairspring and attempt to put it in the parts tray without damaging the spring (this is where it went wrong for me last time) I had seen some people on YouTube slightly rotating the balance cock when attempting to remove it in order to allow the balance wheel to slide out easier so I thought i would see if it would work for me. I took hold of the balance cock with my tweezers and gently lifted it away from the plate while slowly turning it at the same time and before I knew it I had the balance assembly away from the plate and into the parts tray, RESULT !!! After high fiving myself :D it was time to remove the pallet lever bridge and the pallet lever which was done with no fuss at all and also stored safely in the parts tray leaving my movement looking like this. More to follow shortly.

  9. Hi Steven, it's a synchro model with flash connectors made between 1952-60, the number stamped inside suggests it was made in 1957, whereas the model in your brochure is a Kodak reflex, great cameras ! :)

  11. Here is one from Robert Harlow, son of Samuel Harlow that started the clockmaking business in Ashbourne. There are probably quite a few in existence as at least five ancestors were making them. Cheers, Vic
