  1. Hi. To me it looks like the escape wheel has lost both of it's pivots.

  2. The wheels all look filthy. Paul80 has said the escape wheel has lost both pivots and I agree with him.

  4. Thanks! I can't find the cut 8 Vallorbe, but I did find cut 8 Grobet. These have a kind of diamond cross section, and will cut a tapered slot. Smooth on the width, so I could use it on a rest, but I like your idea of freehanding it under my scope. Practice, practice, practice I think you've given me enough info to move forward, I'm really glad I asked before buying the cut 4! Thanks again (a little bit later) Heh. Found an interesting suggestion in Fried's Bench Practices for Watch Repairers. His idea is to take a single edge razor blade, set the edge on a cut 4 needle file, and then give it a good whack with a hammer. He says this will form teeth in the edge of the razor, good enough to file a screw of "moderate temper". I check a blade, it's 0.2mm wide. Perfect. I also have some cut 4 needle files. I've got to try this!

  5. A small drill is great. If memory serves the Bergeon tool was (is?) basically a small carbide spade drill in a screwdriver handle. Glucydur balances are quite hard and HSS drills don't always want to bite, so go carbide if possible.

  8. Hi once you have it dissassembled check every wheel for the fact the pivots are intact and not damaged. If it welt together the first time ok it should do so again, if all pivots are ok just try assembllng the gear train on its own with its own bridge.

  10. Appears so to me. I made a little tool out of pegwood to remove them.

  12. Wow! You have to be born under a lucky star, @BigT. I just received this watch in my mail 3 days ago. It was procured from Ukraine and took over a month to arrive. I had almost given up on it. I thought, what's the chance that the movement inside is a 2414? And guess what? Here you go.

  13. There is a gear is glued to to day disc. These are produced in Chine in huge quantities and quality control may be missing. Easily available from a variety of sources.

  15. I think the Montaine should look good with a little TLC and a fresh crystal. The Timex probably will clean up nicely. The two ladies watches probably just work, although servicing that tiny tittle Regency might be a bit of a challenge. At an average of £1.24 each I can't really complain regardless of the outcome.

  16. Hello Everyone, Purchased yesterday for HKD40 (GBP4.22)...does it qualify? The winding stem/button/crown looks like it's being held in with Scotch tape...eeek! g. ----

  17. The viscosity of the oil causes it. The fork only moves through about 12 degrees and needs to do it as quickly as possible. Standard practice is no oil on fork pivots. I was working on a JLC 838 that in spite of being ultra thin is usually a good runner. I was missing 30 degrees of amplitude. Turns out I skipped pegging the fork hole jewels (normally I always do it). Pegged, and got my 30 degrees. They looked spotless before pegging too.
