  1. Last night I completed my first simple lathe project for my watch repair course. This is the first time I've used a graver on my lathe to make anything to a set dimension. I'll be the first to admit it has a number of flaws in it and I still need to improve a lot, but for a first try I think its ok. I started with a 1/8 inch diameter brass rod and had to turn it down to 1mm diameter for 1mm, 2mm for 2mm, 2.5mm for 2.5mm and 3mm diameter for 3mm, giving us a total length of 8.5mm. Here are the results below. Photo of part, I slipped facing off the end causing the scratching at the end of the larger diameter, also note the mistake at the transition from 2.5mm to 3mm caused by me squaring off the end. Total diameter should be 8.5mm, mine is at 8.42mm, so 0.08mm undersize. 1mm diameter is at 0.99mm 2mm diameter is at 1.99mm 2.5mm diameter is at 2.49mm 3mm diameter at 3.01mm I still need to do a lot more practice, but atleast its a start.

  2. I don't think it's casual. I have bought 2x 1812 (TY2661) and they are like 0 spd, plus or minus 3 secs secs in all positions.

  3. Andrew I presume it is a pin that secures the bracelet. If so this link is what you require you will need to take measurements to purchase the correct pin. https://www.cousinsuk.com/category/notched-knurled-watch-bracelet-pins

  4. i got a job, when 18,in a jewelry store in my home town. the owner, turned out to be a cmw and cmc. he agreed to take me on as appretice. after spending time as a clerk, sweeping up under the lathe benchs, hand filing and theroy, disassembly, cleaning, polishing, assembly, i had spent two yrs. found an appreticeship program (for 5 yrs) sponsed by NCWA license board.I did my (ojt) in the NC mts. the owner of the store, she was 5 generation CW, her dad CMW,CMC,her mother CMW, husband CCM,both her son and daughter worked there. I lived with the family,in their home,(24 hrs.per day.I got a job at the old waltham factory.building the A-13A,8 day aircraft clock, for the goverment. I did final assembly, final timing(30 sec in 8 days) !!! a lot of balances to poise. by the way it was done with hand calipers, you vibrate the calipers with tweezers, the heavy point allways falls down. the last watmkrs guild was in waltham MA, I loved it all,a master was so much more than a profesional,at least to me.I still love fine mechinal works. thank yall, for letting me participate in your group oldwamkr

  7. As Geo said, an interesting piece . I have a thing for Zodiacs , especially the SST 3600 Hi-Beat although I have never worked on one . BTW , I just checked the Old Swiss Watches website and Sudarson seems to have a good supply of Zodiac parts . You can always E-mail him if you don't see what you're looking for listed .

  8. Thanks guys for the very interesting reading! As I understand it's less adjusting by pushing a lever , but fixing all other faults like dirty parts. Thanks. Frank
