I am having a problem with the hour hand on a watch; the friction fit isn't tight enough to hold it in place.

Would it be OK to very carefully squeeze it together a little? I'm a little reticent to do this.

Would a small amount of Locktite - the non permanent kind - work better?

The correct procedure utilizes a staking set, but not everyone has one. I'm not sure about improvised methods but adhesive substances are a poor idea.

The procedure is in the book 'The staking set and how to use it' i believe there's a free .pdf somewhere if you need it, it has been posted on the forum before.
Only thing is the hour hand coming loose might be a direct result of the loose dial.

I’ve mentioned this before, but using a jewelling attachment on the staking set (or just a jewelling set) gives you additional control. Measure change in hole size; repeat as necessary.

I have in the past used a small pin vice as these hold the tube in four places, gently tighten up and test and adjust as you go until the hand fits, the other way I was told was to gently using a screwdriver blade push the hand tube over just a smidgen,  not scientific but both ways have helped me in the past, the pin vice is the better one though.
