OK guys, you may be right, I should not give on the watch, so I will order some more crystals (chances are I will use them on other watches) and give it another go.  I am really enjoying the mechanical side of striping and fixing watches, not so sure about the case side though.

Thanks to you all for your help.

Thank you for posting this Alienfox , I did not have this particular guide . So , what conclusions have you come to in regards to your case and caseback numbers ? I stated my iffy conclusion in my last posting . Are you going to cut your losses , try to find the crystal and gasket to case combo , get another complete donor and crystal [maybe an expensive one from India ]  ,   or something . What ever you decide , I'm pulling for you .

Aloha , Louis

Ricardo, I have decided with the help of everyone who contributed to this post that the case back is not the correct one for the case, so this guide may help me find out what I really have.  I will continue to try various methods to get a crystal fitted, but I have already purchased a case with crystal and the correct back, that should arrive in the next week or so.

Actually as mentioned before I believe the caseback is correct. See this other watch, 7009-3041, it is the same as your.

The difference of the final digit indicates a minor variation.

When fitting a flat crystal, if the measurement takne to order replacement, dies and technique are correct, one can't fail.

Let us know if the guide eventually does help you figure out which case type you may have ,

7009-304x are F type. The relevant sections of the casing guide was posted before. But, this watch apparently doesn't have a bezel removal notch. I must correct myself and in fact with a compressed rubber gasket like F type, is not possible to fit the glass, because it must go in from the inside, with the gasket uncompressed. So, the bezel has to be removed possibly using a correct die and pushing it out.
