It looks in mint condition.  A very beautiful and functional time piece.  As to the "sting in the wallet"...I am reminded of what a good friend often says to me when I "um and ah" about a purchase with a high price tag...  "You're a long time dead and you can't take the money with you."

 

Ricardo...just enjoy the fact that you were able to get the watch at a price much lower than if it was new and, remember, it is still a valuable Rolex which can only appreciate in value over time.

that's quite a piece of watchcraft. like i said, it would be a toss up between your speedtimer and this rolex for wrist time.

Is it true that Hamilton left the retail market for a time to produce watches exclusively for the U.S. Military? Someone told me that the other day.

I don't know the answer to that one Dave . 

Have you checked out the Marathon diver I posted in this collection forum . This is a watch that is specked for the Military , but is also popular for civilian use . As a matter of fact , a "Sterile" version is available without the Government ID info on it.

Isn't Marathon made by Timex? I wouldn't be surprised if it was a higher division being it such an old and respected company. I believe they were the timekeepers of Olympics and other events -- or something important like those -- some time ago...

      As a beginner, I’ve found this forum invaluable. I doubt I would’ve persevered without its support. I’ve had the confidence to attempt things that seemed to me impossible only because I knew there were patient and giving folks gathered around this watering hole, available to share their skill.    I would very much like to know where to go if this one dries up and everyone needs to decamp.  There’s something special about the folks gathered in this group.  How to keep in touch?

      After a 3-week work fiasco that took up 137% of my time, I was finally able to get back to restoring a G. Boley 8mm lathe I picked up on eBay. I still need to do a bit of polishing on the tailstock but it works very nicely. Before and after pictures below. In any case, when I was reassembling the motor I wasn't quite sure which side the pully attached to, or if it matters. My question is ... does it matter? The listing photo below shows it the reverse of how I have it now, but it seemed that the cord and the reversing lever(s) should be on the right away from the belt.
