Hello everyone,

My names Jake and I'm based in the East Midlands UK.

I've worked for the past several years in heavy engineering and construction, I have a deep love of taking something apart and fixing the problem and derive great satisfaction from doing a good job.  I have a small collection of vintage mechanical watches from the 1940s up to the 1960s as well as some more modern watches and have loved watches for as long as I can remember.

So these two things combined has led me to take the step to becoming a professional watchmaker.  Will I achieve that dream? or will it become a life long hobby? who knows but I shall have fun and frustration along the way  and if it distracts me from the day job that's all that counts!

I've just bought and have started watching the Level 1 - 3 videos on Watchfix.com with Mark Lovick and I will soon be starting the British Horological Institute distance learning course hopefully between the two something useful will stick in my head!

My first 'Project' was a complete failure I bought a pocket watch advertised as 'Not working' for 50p from a car boot sale and after getting it home and opened realised all the parts where loose in the case and it had been padded out with cotton wool so they didn't rattle!  Definitely getting what I paid for!

outside of watches and my failure at watchmaking I love to read, cook, play board games, go to the theatre and spend a quiet night in with my partner and my cat.

looking to learn and hopefully make some likeminded friends!

Hope you all have a great day and thanks for reading!

Oldhippy my profile picture is my cat! My lovely boy Milo, he's a British blue shorthair with a longer family tree than i have! and he's a proper cheeky character! he's only maybe six months old in that picture but now nearly two and definitely having teenage angst!
