Finally got the mainspring in and I am pleased with these results. The case came up pretty nicely, too. Especially that inside cover. I'm assuming it's highly polished stainless, but it's so shiny if I didn't know better I'd say it's silver. I found an antique silver fob to complete the look. And yes, I noticed the cat hair under the crystal and popped it back off. -
Well well. I looked closely at the nut and it looks like it had the thin interior friction spring @LittleWatchShop mentioned but the part is broken. So that's why I can't get more friction, but the thing is still an eccentric and is helpful especially to align with an inverted stake used as a stump.

I am having some trouble learning how your website works. I couldn't get any text in with the pictures. Some of the pictures look a little brown, rusty. Actually they are all bright steel. The color is some artifact I didn't have time to figure out the cause. I hadn't used my camera for several years so the battery was down. I may have lost some settings.

The nut is more of a fine tuning alignment that you don't quite get with the front to back movement of the anvil. When tightening the anvil it can want to pull itself central to the tapered head pin in the middle, though you do get a little front to back play, just not always enough if the frame isn't perfectly in lline or has had a knock. Not sure about the stake friction adjustment I haven't come across that before.
