A Seiko 6119?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Me again. I need advice and information please.

I purchased a Seiko 6119 to repair. I purchased a donor advertised as a 6119. It arrived and the case looked wrong, but the back stated 6119 8140.

I've just opened it up and the interior is nothing like any Seiko that I know. My experience is limited to low end Seiko's. 7009, 6309, 6319, 7S26 and now 6119.

The case looks as though it could be from a 4006, I could be wrong.

The movement is alien to me. Any advice please

Thank you

Ross

yes that doesn't look quite right at all I circled a few things typically with Seiko they use their own balance protection system and that looks Swiss to me? Not that Seiko and the Japanese the Swiss don't work together for things but that's definitely not quite right + circled the things on the case those don't quite seem right either

oh and looking at the picture my bad I forgot the circle something which I didn't notice until now notice your ratchet wheel missing teeth? But never mind it's not the right watch anyway here's a link to what the picture the watch should look like and this one is definitely not it.

So looks like someone did a retrofit upgrade and the case isn't writes because as a button pushing something and yes definitely not the right watch it all

Got yourself a real Frankenstein there, I think that perhaps the dial and the case-back are Seiko and the rest is from something else. It does remind me of an Orient movement (below) with the weird button to set the day, but as @JohnR725 points out the balance protection looks Swiss and not the triangular (ish) shape you tend to get in older Seikos and Orient. Also, I've never come across a click quite that shape/design before, its a mystery!

Can always look at as you have a unique one-off watch 🙂

I'm also curious about the rippling effect circled in red in the middle at the bottom - is this real or just a trick of the camera?

Hmmmm! I'll have a look under the microscope at the ripple. Will let you know.

It took someone a lot of time to make this movement fit. But to damage a watch in this way? Even as novice, I would not consider this.

Good point, the time and effort they spent they could probably have bought a real Seiko movement/case 10 times over

Ah, but i've got a Seiko case (I think), a Seiko dial (with glue), A Seiko 6119 back (scratched) and a very weird movement. And most of all, a talking point with the forum members. Pretty sure I can get it working at some stage. Just need to find a ratchet wheel , or not connect it to the crown wheel.

Good fun this  hobby, innit.

Regards

Ross

John. As requested. Still no markings that I can see.

Waggy. Re: your comment on the red circled part on your posting

Marks appear to be pressure marks. Similar to an item being held in a vice. No determent to the plate. Whew!

Looks very much like a Ricoh movement but with a different cap jewel spring.

Mine is from an 061 series auto with manual wind and pusher for the date change.

Way to go. Think you are right. The dial and day wheel are different. This is a good basis.

Looks like you have found the movement for sure, maybe they have replaced a damaged shock jewel setting in the balance complete with a Swiss version. But the rest of the movement seems far too similar to your Rioch to be a coincidence.

Not often you are wrong. But you are right again (I do like that phrase).

The originally seller offered, and sent a refund. I have already found a Ricoh cheaper that the original, and it's in full working order. Isn't life good?

Another project. Woohoo.

    • Hello forum, I have just joined the forum and I believe it is the done thing to introduce myself.  I am based in Surrey UK and am essentially a complete novice at watch repair.  Fairly life long interest in watches, starting from not being allowed one as a child as I kept taking them apart… After watching a you tube video of a watch service, I thought to myself “I could do that…”. Well I got myself a Seiko 7002 dive watch that was a non runner. Striped cleaned and reassembled. With much blaming of tools, dropped parts and feeling out of my depth I got it working again. I built my own pressure tester and it leaked like a sieve! fixed now though.    I’ve since done a few 7002’s and an NH35A with mostly success. But now I’m left with quite a few working movements and no budget for cases. Overall my lack of a timegrapher has really hampered things and efforts using phone apps have been disappointing.    I next moved to an ETA 2472, all went well until I snapped the stem after failure to find a suitable case for it. Alas replacements seem almost the price I paid for the movement! Hopefully I’ll stumble on a suitable one one day.   Currently working on a Smiths 512 pin pallet movement. All went well until the shock protection. My goodness they are tricky compared to all the others and now I’m down one shock spring. This was my first movement I’d done with no video or walkthrough or even manual for backup. So I was pretty pleased with my self, briefly.  Well, that’s me and my watch repair journey.    Rob
    • Something odd is going on with email notifications. As I posted above with the screenshot, when I checked my notification settings I saw that somehow the option to send an email notification in addition to the browser notification was not selected, even though previously that had been working for me. So I selected the email option, in addition to the two top options of automatically following new content I post or reply to. I did not get an email notification for your post (I did get the browser notification), which I should have (it does show me as subscribed to this thread) and when I went to look again at my notification setting, the board software has again unchecked the email notification option (in addition to the two top automatically follow options). The below left is a screenshot of how it was setup after my last post and the right is how it was just now when I rechecked. For some reason the board is resetting this preference on its own.
    • I feel like I've achieved the next level up 😅 . First watch with homemade part installed ( setting lever ). FHF 73, not bad to work on, simple and sturdy, and part working perfectly.  An Avia and in time for this year's Olympics.  It has a teenage dial ( bit spotty ) 😅
    • We need to know the caliber.
    • I am.  On my phone just using the bell symbol, I don't bother with email notifications.  Actually I  stopped receiving email notifications a long time ago, I  don't remember cancelling them.
