Hi Joe, Use the same direction - from inside to otside - for both pressing out the old setting and pressing in the new one. This is the way to prevent the bush of the setting from danage. There is another option too - to replace the stone only, if a stone with the right sizes is found. By the way, the stone will break only for a reason, and there is no much reasons but one, so check if the pivots of the weel are intact. -

Pretty sure the marks aren't standardised, each repairer having their own code. -

H Watch Repairers—is there is a ‘standard format’ for the service marks or codes lightly engraved inside cases of pocket watches or wristwatches? Sometimes I can see there might be a reference to year/ month but other times am confused. I’ve included an image of the rear of a 1951 Hamilton 992B Railroad pocket watch as an example.
