What is the crystal size and reference number for my watch?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have an Omega De Ville Dynamic (men). On the back of the watch it has the "De Ville" carving and also reads "Tool 107". The crystal is cracked and needs replacing.

Does anyone know what the reference number for the crystal replacement is? Or what diameter should I be looking for?

Hi Before chasing up a crystal check what its made from If its acrylic you may be able to polish out the scratches with something like Polywatch or auto chrome cleaner Sovolautosol and save you a few quid. If its crystal you will need to remove it and measure its size and the case rim. Check to see if it has a gasket  as well.    you will need a crystal press and or a crystal lift tool depending on the material  and also whether its got a tension ring on the glass.

The reference is inside the caseback. Replacing this crystal isn't difficult still some specific tools and knowledge are necessary, so if you have a reputable repair show I would recommend to give them the work. You can still buy the replacement crystal yourself.

I believe it is acrylic but there is a crack which lets in air and dust so needs to be replaced. I just don't know what size/model I need to get

Do I have to remove the crystal and the movement to get there?

This is the page from cousins website regarding omega acrylic glasses. As you will appreciate there are many sizes. The normal way is to remove the offending crystal and measure  it across 9 -3 position  then add 0.01 to the size.  You will still need tools to fit the replacement

No, it's a screwed caseback with an uncoventional way to hold the strap.

I agree that it has quite an unusual strap. I don't think I've seen one with such radical taper.

@QuadMachine, It can be frustrating to try to find the right factory crystal for wrist-watches. If the maker didn't provide a catalog with crystals to match the case number, which not all did apparently, your best bet probably is going for something generic. G&S, Steinkreuz, etc. G&S catalogs do list a lot of their "PA" and "ET" (Ever-tite, which have tension rings)  crystals with watch brands noted. Good luck. I hope you have an easy search and replace job.

Based on the following links, I think my watch should be Ref 166.144 Cal 1012:

even with that info, I still can't figure out where to get a replacement acrylic crystal for it

The crystal you need is PZ5083 if your case is 166.144.  Check the case number on the inside of the caseback.  You might find it hard to locate a genuine glass, we sold out a while back.  We have the generic verion here: https://gleave.london/glass-omega-pz5083-steel-ring-xac-330-552-generic/

Other suppliers will also stock this generic one or you may be able to find a genuine one on ebay.

A better way to get your case number would be to take your case back off and see what it is. This way you avoid any unpleasant surprises just in case for some reason it's not the same.

    • Off topic, but that just brought back an old memory! My mother once told me about a minor incident as a child (born 1917, so 1920s, at a guess). She used to use "Fish glue" for a hobby - an apparently smelly glue that had to be heated to be usable - and to heat it gently, she had to stand the tin in the kettle.   One day someone filled the kettle without seeing the glue tin.. The tea tasted of fish for some time afterwards!
    • As Richard said, this is a really old school trick for joinery.  Cut i strip of paper, might need to be watch paper  around 1 " x 1/2" lay it over a staking block then press the stud screw into and through the edge of the paper upto the head of the screw. You probably wont even need to pull the paper away the head will pull itself through.
    • Thanks Jon, my mum is getting there day by day, so strong and determined, they dont make em like this anymore 🙂 Old folk are so amazing,  my mum used to love her golf, she didn't stop playing until she was 70 . Enjoy your trip and your golf.
    • Hello,  i am looking to source a winding stem (winding arbor) for a waltham 6/0 d movement. I have found some that claim to fit 6/0, 6/0s, 6/0b etc and somealso claim they will also fit the d as well. The d does have hacking which is driven by the stem seating completely. Given some of the costs of these, i was hoping someone would know of any interchangeability with a source, or know a source where a confirmed 6/0 d stem can be had. I am in the US so a US dealer is best.    thanks in advance.
    • So great to see and hear- your mum looks great! …my mil had a stroke last summer in the golf course parking lot. I’m flying out tomorrow to visit and play golf. she’s ornery because she can’t get off the tee but I hear she makes up for it on the greens since she’s been putting since a week after her stroke 🧐…
