Not that deep. If you want the easy way I would fill it with silver solder, soft solder will wear out in no time. Make sure you burnish it and the inside of the hole. The best way would be to make the whole steel piece, but you need a lathe and mill but you could do it with just a lathe. Depends on your skills.

ill go with the easy way to start with, my mentor suggested to file it down, i think just to test my skills further. 

Although the amount of pivots I've filed and burnished with him I'm quite adept at it now. ill let you know how i get on. many thanks

I don't think it would be too weak if you reduced it down below that groove. I would definitely turn it down in a lathe, then burnish, to be sure it's nice and round and straight.

The photo looks to me like that pivot may have been gripped in a vice before. I've seen that many times. Sometimes they end up ovalised as a result (you can feel it as you rotate the arbor on the lathe).

Sorted this pivot, had to file it down by quite some way but there’s still enough meat left for the size of the pivot.

Just looked at the original photo and that is a lot of steel removed. It looks sturdy enough and I would say it will be fine. The fusee cone takes a hell of a lot of pressure.

    • Thanks for the answers. In my case space is very limited: I only have the kitchen table on evenings. This is why I am considering a mostly water-based system (keeping heptane only for balance complete and pallets) and no cabinets, no big machines. Any advice for water-based detergents that I could procure from Sweden (ordering from Cousins is OK especially for non-hazardous liquids because normal shipping would be used). Should I really get an ultrasonic for those or would it also work by hand? Thanks!

Must feel good to learn some new watchmaking black magic huh? 😂 Can you post a photo of the crown after all this, I'm a bit interested in how it looks compare to how yellow it was before, never thought alum could dissolve oxidation as well, maybe I can work out the chemistry behind it, something to do with the electrochemistry list, but I'm too lazy for it so 😂 you are lucky it was only yellow, the layer must be so thin it didn/t damage the finishing enough to be noticeable.
    • Thank you Andy, I will keep that in mind.  Fortunately this time, I tried to drill the stem out before finding out about the alum method, therefore most of the stem was hollowed out.  When I took the crown out of the third bath, I was able to screw the whole replacement stem in.  It us now in the ultrasonic cleaner to get any remaining gunk out. claudio
    • I haven't been on the forum for a while 🙃 A family member had a 955.112 watch running with an intermittent fault. Bought a NOS 955.112 movement, but to be sure, I'll give it a full service. It has been a long time since I did the 955.112, so I went back to @VWatchie walk-through ........ Again, I'm struck by the quality of it ❣️ Superb work 👏 🫶 🙏
    • Hi Neven , Agree we you that guard pin is in general a suspect , but OP replaced the fork, no joy.  Perhaps roller is damaged or misses the guard pin, so OP is going to check the escapement with high magnification &  adjust end shakes as well. Regs
