A watchmaker noob, ready for an adventure

Hello All,

Over the years I’ve always been interested in watch repair. I have been slowly assembling the tools in preparation, although on the search for a good canon pinion removal tool, and a nice set of winders.

I purchased a Rolex Submariner Date 16610 back in 2000 brand new, when I was doing actual diving. I purchased it not just because of the brand, but I wanted it to last. Unfortunately I did not service it, and my wife put it on a winder. It of course has stopped. So it sits in a case waiting for a repair at some point. Meanwhile I plan to work on some Seikos and other automatics, and just enjoy the hobby. Looking for tips, tricks and sage advice. My dad was a toolmaker, and designed new tools, including watch tools, so I guess this is real nostalgia For me.

I hope you are all a friendly bunch, in the past I have helped and moderated other forums, and loved meeting new enthusiasts (home theater, movie props). So here I am now at the start of learning after watching a multitude of YouTube videos.

I’m here to learn, and appreciate the work you all do. I’m originally from London, but moved to the USA for my career years ago. Looking for really solid places to purchase parts, and tools (always need more tools).

thanks,

Jim
