Even though I haven’t yet had use for one yet, I've been watching staking sets on eBay. I pulled the PayPal trigger on one yesterday.

Hopefully I made a good choice.

Mine was only $75 but defiantly had some rust and I was never able to clean the stakes up as much as I would have liked. Yours seems pristine.

Thanks guys!

I hope you're right about the Bergeon stakes, Bob. One of my concerns with buying an old set was finding replacements.

Posted

Indeed, half the stakes out of true due to them bashing around with each other, and the base from UK to Finland, and when I showed eBay and the seller after a dispute, eBay sided with the seller, go figure.

What the heck!

Ebay always sides with buyer for the tiniest of problems but when someone has a real problem they go the opposite way!!!

Is there not an escalation procedure?

Case was resolved according to eBay as the seller offered to take the items back but I decided to keep as the seller wouldn't cover return shipping cost.

The automated case bot was happy with the outcome.

In the uk it is against consumer law to put a customer in a worse position than he was before the purchase. Ie they HAVE to refund postage.

Ouch. That sucks. I just emailed the seller, who is supposed to be shipping today, to ask him to package the items securely.

Thanks, SSTEEL.

Except this was probably an auction and so consumer law does not apply.

Looks good. Hope you don,t have the same issue I have with mine. The two smallest holes are blocked and I have never found a way to unblock so I use a stump when needed.

Thanks, Clockboy. You mean the two smallest holes in the anvil are blocked?

After seeing SSTEEL's picture, I emailed the seller and requested that they pack mine securely. Not only did they do that, they marked each row of stakes separately so I could put them back exactly where they were. They also found 20 or 30 "bonus" parts that had been stuck behind the wood things that the stakes fit into and sent them along. Can't say enough good things about this seller.

Bummer. I still haven't used mine yet. Hopefully I don't have the same problem. But I do have another Moseley anvil for backup.

It,s not a real bummer I just use a stump, its just annoying but not a big issue. I noticed that Cousins are now selling a new one for approx £150 and in my opionion it,s well worth a look.

@Don: Nice set Don, and great choice since you will have plenty of new spares when you need them! Congratulations!

@Micky: That was terrible Micky, I hope you sorted it out in the end. Did you have to replace the damaged parts, meaning, was there a way to fix them at all?

Cheers,

Bob
