Hi,

Since a few days I’m no longer able to log into the forum via the Ipad app. When trying, I either get a ”denied” or ”failed plus a long list of code gibberish” message.

I have tried to update the app and also changed pw via the regular web browser.

Is anyone else having app login issues?

Are you talking about Tapatalk??

I have disabled this plugin temporarily for several reasons. You can load up WRT in Safari and it actually works much better (my personal preference). Or in iPad version of google chrome you get the mobile version as made by the forum software developer and that also works brilliantly.

- it was causing some issues with the website, and in particular the security measures we have in place to help prevent DDos attacks. I did this yesterday to see if the errors will go away (they did) and am testing it further to confirm.

- The other issue I have with Tapatalk is their placement of advertising on my forum of which we do not seem to have any control. When I logged on to test this I saw some pretty awful advertisements which seemed to be promoting these stupid mobile games - with zero benefit to the community.

- We originally used Tapatalk back in the day because the Mobile version of the site was terrible - this has improved immensely, and has made me wonder about the relevance of Tapatalk.

If we get an update to Tapatalk that doesn't cause errors I will consider again to install it.

Thanks for the quick response, Mark!

And yes, this was concerning Tapatalk. When I started using my Ipad for WRT this app seemed to be the best option but things change...

Good to hear that the browser version works fine and will continue that way.

I have been using Tapatalk to read this forum up until the last couple of weeks. It seems Tapatalk will no longer connect to this forum. I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions on what other readers to use on smart phones and tablet computers? Web browsers and my old eyes do not work well together when it comes to accessing this forum.

The forum works perfectly with Chrome on mobile devices, no matter now small the screen is. Resize screen as you lik it better by placing two finges of the display and slowling opening them up - pinch zoom.

Chrome does not work as well as Tapatalk, for me. I was hoping someone knew of a forum reader app similar to Tapatalk that works with this forum. After searching for such as app, I have not found any.

Just in case Mark or a forum admin sees this post, I am NOT advocating re-enabling the Tapatalk plugin on the forum.  I think Tapatalk has stepped over the line with their recent policy changes. I do not like using Chrome to read forums on mobile devices, but I rather use Chrome than Tapatalk at this point.

What does not work? What device are you using?

This forum software (Invision) is the absolute leader, and is designed to work equally well on both desktop and mobile. My experience since 6 years fully confirms that.

Chrome does not work as well as Tapatalk,

I hate to disagree, but after using TT for several years, not just this forum, I can say that the mobile version of this site - wether loaded in chrome or safari on iPad, iPhone and my wife’s galaxy S8 runs much much better than TT. There are some features that just do not work in TT aside from my gripes with images not being hosted but rather being uploaded to TT servers (not sure if that’s changed) and the horrible advertising I cannot manage the forum through TT - I can manage the whole forum via the mobile version loaded into chrome or safari. I am writing this in chrome on my iPhone, it’s easy to quote, select quote, and edit. There is nothing I can’t do and many more things I can perform that I cannot do in TT.
Tapatalk has outlived its usefulness. If we lose some members then I’m sorry - but it’s not coming back - too many bugs and errors to deal with.

invision has a competing app but I have decided on the KISS rule and I think that’s how we shall keep it from now on.
I hope that’s ok.

I have never used tapatalk on any forum.

Currently I use Safari, when on my iPhone, and any issues are attributed to my ineffective, overpriced cable provider, not to the forum software.

I us TT to read 8 forums on 5 subjects. TT allows me to navigate the forums in a uniform way, no matter which forum I am on or what software is being used to run the forum.

As you pointed out, there are a number of things TT does not allow one to do, or does not do well. I only read and post on forums, thus, I only need basic forum functionality.  Even so, TT can be a pain.

I guess the conclusion to this thread is that I need to learn how to use a web browser to read my forums.
Thanks everyone for your responses.

    • Thanks for the information, its a big help. I'll try and pull off the pipe. I think I'll try using the Presto hand remover. Then I guess I'll try to fit the pipe into the hands(?) though maybe I won't have to as I'm putting a new set of hands on the movement.
    • One of the problems with chronograph hands and whoever manufactured the watch would be that often times they are put on with considerable force. The problem with the amount of force they go on with is that often times when removed they disintegrate. So disintegrating hands unfortunately is quite common on a chronograph. With those lucky enough to have an account with were be authorized by whoever made the watch or the service center they would have a complete package of hands. so yes that does look like the brass tube of the hand that disintegrated.
    • The unfortunate problem of the three jar cleaning machine. At least I assume it's a three jar machine. Classically with three jar machine the first is a cleaner and the second to be a rinse of the same type. Cleaning is a interesting process and it's not exactly cleaning and rinsed the entire procedure is cleaning. The cleaner is supposed to have chemicals to put things in the solution and things to make things right and shiny. The rinse continues to put things in solution and reduces the concentration of things in the fluid on the plates. Ideally you should have two rinses not one and alcohol. If you look at the modern cleaning machines you find typically now they will have a minimum of four jars or whatever. Often times the last one will have alcohol because depending upon where you live the rinse itself may not evaporate. So you have a final rinse of alcohol just to rinse off the rinse. Then the only thing I've ever seen on baskets would be this quoted below from something Omega has. But they are assuming that you have genuine Elma baskets and not a machine made in India from unknown materials. Although a lot of people are using the baskets from India I just don't know enough about them. Personally I've see in the baskets for other machines especially the holder which would be as it's implied below nickel plated where the plating wears off and eventually the brass will be etched away from the chemicals in the cleaning product. One thing I didn't see you mention was how long in the each of the baths? Usually for the cleaning products that make things bright and shiny. Time-limited approximately 4 minutes works really well. The rinses of less of concern it depends upon how much the cleaning fluid is dissolved in it though. You can download the specifications the cleaning products I like they have recommended times the final alcohol rinse is supposed to be relatively short as any time we mention alcohol and watches people get excited over dissolving the shellac. But typically with isopropyl alcohol it takes a little while longer and I've even used alcohol which I know dissolves shellac but I was just using it to rinse off the rinse so it was never a problem.
    • I think i am done. I was working withe two pieces, one was 316 SS and the other 304 SS. The starting material for 304 was thinner, so I opted for finishing it. Since I only have images of one of these watches, I cannot know the exact dimensions. The owner is not critical...just wants a working solution. I think this is it. It was quite the challenge to turn the inside  locking rim. An inside angle cut. Had to be damn close in order to have a snap fit. Frankly I think I just got lucky. Sometimes lucky is better than smart! The inside edge that interfaces with the crystal is an interference fit. This was on purpose in case my locking-edge cut was overshot...then the bezel and crystal would work together to stay put. Tens of hours working on this, and I learned a lot!
    • I'm using: 2.5L Elma WF Pro – New Formula for the main cleaning 2.5L Elma Suprol Pro – New Formula for the first rinse Isopropanol Alcohol IPA 99.99% for the final rinse So far, all fresh fluids. I was also under the impression they shouldn’t cause rust, so I’m wondering if maybe the damage was already there and is just progressing now. Because my baskets came with the machine when I bought it pre-owned, I’m not sure if they’re original Elma or not. That’s exactly why I’m hesitant to buy a new set—I don’t want to end up with lower quality clones again if that’s what these are.
