All going to plan I will be picking up my Christmas present to myself tomorrow, a Longines 30LS in a 9K gold BAUME case.

I'm getting it for a very reasonable price as I am buying it from a watchmaker I know and it is a watch he has had for a number of years.

It will need a new band, but other than that is good and keeping time within a few seconds a day.

I do love the gold chatons for the jewels in the movement too.

I cant decide if the winding knob is original or not, as I have seen this model of watch with a slimmer winding knob and with ones like this, but it does look a bit chunky to me on the watch, so I may replace it if its not original.

Just a wonderful watch, I have a special love for the Longines 30L / 30LS.
They usually came with a slightly smaller knob as you say , half the width and a bit rounded on  the  top.

I've picked it up and its all in pretty good shape.

The crown is a Longines crown, but I don't think the original one, so will look at replacing it in the future.

Also the second hand is not original as it is black and it should be gold. This Longines came in a Baume 9K gold case as it was sold in the UK rather than a Longines case so it does not seem to have a case number.

Any idea how to work out was the case number would be to see if Cousins has the correct second hand in stock?

I'm guessing one way to go would be to use Longines free service and get an Extract from Archives as stated on there website here.

I must say I'm really surprised that the extract from the archives is offered for free, but then this is the first watch I've owned that moves up a level of quality from the run of the mill watches.

I have also recently purchased a 30LS.Serial number dates it to 1962 also in 9ct. Mine is a presentation watch engraved on the back. just waiting for a new crystal. Crown on mine appears to be original.
