  2. You can, if you wish, donate watches that are too small for you, to the Watchitis Research Fund. Just drop an email to [email protected] for the address... :D

  3. Its not been a good month for rusty watches. It's a real shame about this one as the dial has also been damaged and it will be pretty hard/expensive to replace as it is the driver model (dial is rotated 90ºs). Here are some pictures of the strip down.

  4. Whilst trawling for some movement info, I found this site. Has loads of movement data and all in one place. Others may find it useful. http://tech.gleaveandco.com/tech-sheets

  5. Hi guys, I finally got rid of the plasterers and got the carpets fitted (but not before they managed to chop through my internet cable) so thought I would post a quick update. I got the desk finished and am really happy with the results, it's super stable (even at raised height) and is plenty big enough for everything I need to do at it. The cupboard was an afterthought to keep my ultrasonic cleaner in along with the cleaning solutions and my timing machine. I will post some better pictures over the next few days with a more detailed overview but for now here's a couple of quick ones. Hope you like

  9. I don,t know I just found this on the net; It looks the same !!!! http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?106445-Need-help-identifying-an-antique-pocket-watch-Swiss-Made Sourcing pocket watch parts is difficult & the spring fitted is most likely not correct. The GR number I quoted are in the GR book for watches of 19". If it is the only fault I would fit a new mainspring & just service the watch. Here is a link to workout the length of spring you will require: http://www.nawcc-index.net/CalcMainspringLength.php There normally is a string off numbers somewhere either on the watch or case which will guide you to the year of manufacture.

  10. It looks very much like one of those watches, by anonymous makers, made for clothing and perfume designer labels. Rochas is a French perfume manufacturer and their brands are labelled Eau de Rochas, Madame Rochas, etc. A bit like watches branded Michael Kors or Next, etc.

  11. I'm in the same boat. I have a few family heirloom watches that are truly works of art from the 50s and 60s but they are too small for my fat wrist. They end up looking like kid's watches.

  12. Hello Mark and welcome from me, Late 50s is cool just means you fit in well to the auld gits club. It gives you freedom to complain about having to use reading glasses, hearing aids and a multitude of other devices and pharmaceuticals. The advice in the previous posts is good, just enjoy and ask for help if in a fix and it will be given. Cheers, Vic (shaky hands, hearing aids, pacemaker, poor sight - thank heavens for alcohol)

  13. Notice that somebody broke a screw on this one and replaced it with a bodge up... It seems the screw hole (a steel insert) has been removed and the screw was driven into the brass plate - oh joy. Not sure if I will ever find a new steel insert. May have to make do as best as I can. Broken mainspring. Notice how it is coned up due to being fitted badly by hand...
