  2. What a **BLEEP**! I have over 300 free music pages available from my music website - built up over many years - and all I ever get is many, many thankyous from peoplewho've found the stuff useful. Knowledge is for sharing - not hoarding.

  3. Spot on Mark, Because of the knowledge that is past on we then actually buy more tools, buy more books & purchase watch parts & materials. Most of us are just very keen enthusiasts but our enthusiasm helps keep the supply houses going which I am sure Mike uses now and then. With the Swatch scenario just around the corner the more of us involved the better.

  4. Good ones Clockboy & Will. I should have said in my first post, that I particularly like Mark's reply to the distrusting and neurotic "Mike". And in answer to Mike's dumb statement, yes we are more than happy to share our knowledge, and do so frequently. VIVA LA FORUM !

  5. Good on you Mark! Usually it's folk that aren't particularly good at there job that make these kind of comments. I've worked in engineering and have never ever had a problem sharing knowledge with anyone. Doing this I have encouraged folk from different and varied backgrounds to get involved, Both as a profession and as a hobby. I don't care who you are, but everyone will learn something down the line from excellent forms such as yours. NOBODY KNOWS IT ALL !

  6. I used to work in engineering and came across this kind of attitude quite a lot. I used to find it was the ones who weren't very good at their job had this pathetic mentality. I used to really enjoy sharing the knowledge I had gained over many years with people who were interested and keen to learn, it was one of the very few good bits about the job!

  7. If we all had the mentality of that **BLEEP** we would still be living in caves. This site, its contributors and Marks work is the internet at its best - exchanging ideas, information & education.

  8. I just scored a Tag Heuer Calibre16 Day/Date (ETA 7750) Movement for a good price off the fleabay. I'll be doing a complete service walkthrough with detailed step-by-step documentation on this one. Later next year (Lord willing), I'll be sourcing a Tag Heuer: Dial, Case, and Band for it, to make it a complete wristwatch. So get a fizzy drink and your popcorn ready Bob!! Coming Soon ....

  9. Thanks Geo. With forums like this, I've learned through times that the old saying, "A picture paints a thousand words" is actually the other way around, i.e. "A word paints a thousand pictures while a picture paints only a word" In short, with pics you actually say what you mean and mean what you say. Great forum.

  10. Had this mortima watch for a while, decided tonight was the time to have ago and get it on my wrist. Luckily i had some staffs in my stash for this movement so i was able to replace the staff and get it ticking. Ill put the full project on my blog as i usually do, however just thought id show it off here. I kept the hands as is, i like the age, if they get any worse i will restore them otherwise got a new watch to wear work tomorrow :)

  11. Good for you Mark, unfortunately there are always people of low intelligence ( I think they are called scum) surfing the net and just looking to cause trouble. If no one ever past on knowledge we would be in a sorry state, example, a doctor refuses to fix your broken arm/neck/leg/back, because you would then see how he did it! I am more than willing to pass on the little I know about Quantum mechanics should anyone be interested.

  12. I wholeheartedly agree with all of you guys and have nothing else to add as all has been said: I feel the same. I'm glad this is THE site with REAL PEOPLE not the likes of the one criticizing! Glad you let it go in the end Mark, you don't need that aggravation and it is not worth to take it to heart. I figured some UFO had to land with one of those at some point...as they say, when something is good, really good, there will be someone not happy enough! Jealousy maybe? Go figure. I bet that guy in not getting much watch repair orders (and probably no women either)...and his favorite watchmaker tool is a 50 lb hammer: that's what you get from people like that. :)

  13. Sorry for the late reply. This is a regular end-stone set in the cap.. they can be a bit tricky to replace. First the old one is extracted with a jeweling tool such as a Seitz or favorite. Then the rubover is spread with another different type of jeweling tool, the new stone is set in place and then another type of jeweling tool is used to rub the metal back over, securing the jewel in place in a similar manner as jewellers will set cabochons. This is a rub-over jeweling set: This is for spreading: This is for rubbing back over: When spreading the metal or rubbing back over, use plenty of clock oil or D5 to lubricate the tool end (contain yourself Geo).

  14. ok we've established that it comes out the front. Option 1 Look at the gap between dial and case near the stem ... pull the crown in and out... do you see anything moving in the gap? some watches have the stem release visible in the gap. You will need to use a small needle to press on it and pull the stem out if so. option 2 1. pull the crown out to the time setting position. 2. flip the watch over, the side away from the crown will fall out a bit. Jiggle it about while turning the crown and lightly pulling on it. Some two piece stems can be released this way but you seldom see two piece stems on quartz watches. Option 3 If this fails to do the trick, the next thing I would do is pull the hands and see if the dial lifts off. The dials looks to be held securely by the bezel so it could be a friction fit into the movement. This is a bit involved and if you're not careful you may end up destroying the watch. hope this helps. Anil
