I have this portico clock and as you can see from the pics the dial inscription is barely legible and all that is on the movement is L.D and either 2337 or 2537. Could anyone tell me the maker, thankyou.

I expect the name on the dial will be the retailer that sold the clock. I cannot see any stamp on the back plate. Normally these movements do. The number on the back should be the same on the pendulum, if so it will be original. It is an 8-day count wheel strike on a bell. It is French and these movements were factory produced in there millions. They are made of good quality brass; these movements were fitted in many different types of cases, from black slate to very ornate types. A safe date for this sort of movement would be 1840’s to about late 1890’s
