Finally found a good staking set!!  I've been looking for one since I started watch repairing a few months back.  But most I saw had either just been sold, missing parts, or in bad condition.

But eureka!  I got one that fits the bill (including cannon pinion resizers, and a micrometer for jewel replacement), and wasn't going to let it pass up, or let one of you buggers snag it before me this time.   ;)

I highly recommend to be patience when looking for a staking set, as good ones do come up from time to time.

Here's the pics ... cause we all love da pics:

An absolute beauty Lawson, congratulations! I got one just like yours ( K&D 18 R) finally. I followed Geo's suggestions about reverse stakes and all. Just waiting for it to arrive. I'll post pictures too!

Oh by the way, mine isn't that complete either, this one is a real beauty and in mint condition!

Well, I just received my 18R. I haven't really sorted out what goes where and probably be finishing the case but everything looks in good order and as a bonus I got the book Geo recommended and a jewel gauge I think! It was a little bit pricey but I figure it has most what I will need in quite a while. So, at Lawson's request, here it is:

Awesome set there Bob!

I thought you said there was items missing?  It looks complete to me mate.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I researched they are a 100 piece kit, with slots for 114 items: so 14 extra slots.

Oh ....and as Marjorie says ....

I have had a K&D staking set for a few years now.

The only issue I have is some of the really small holes are blocked and no mattter what I have tried they will not unblock. I now have to use a stump when I need a small hole. Also I had a few of the punches missing but I found the Bergeon punches fit Ok and purchased from Cousins.

That looks like a good set bob .looks like all of it is there .all the ones I have looked at have at less 1or2 missing lol

Thank you Lawson, I was also pleasantly surprised when I got it last night! It seems all the slots are filled so I'd say 100 plus stakes, stumps et al. The vendor even sent the original manual -- it is not in the picture but inside the book since it was kind of old - He also sent the book which is brand new (Amazon US$45) and the jewel gauge. Everything seems in good order and no stake is clogged. I found myself unpacking very old small, vintage and unopened boxes from many years back to fill the places in the box. I believe this is a fortunate deal not just because of what I got but for discovering the vendor who is very meticulous and take good care the old fashioned way!

I also second Geo, clockboy, since I see myself ordering some of the Bergeon parts for this set when I need it. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you Daniel, it is and I'm very happy with it. If you need it I'll forward the vendor's link I dealt with. He seems to have still another set.

Even though I'm nowhere near actually needing these tools, I'm still watching a few on eBay. The K&D Inverto / Sietz Jeweling tool set looks like a great deal. I wish I could afford it as I'm sure someday I will need one.

You are welcome Daniel.

By the way guys, I have a little problem I can't figure out, in my home computer the paste icons in the editor won't work and the pictures won't show their path when I add them in the editor box. At work they do fine. Is there a setting I'm missing in my home computer. Should I turn on the compatibility setting in the tools option in my browser. I use IE11.

I find sometimes I have to open MS Paint and paste the image in there first and safe it to HDD.  IE11 is a true disaster of the browsers mate, have a look at the THOR browser, it's firefox on crack :)

By the way, I sent the person that sold me the staking set a thank you message.

He said they provide the same attention to their customers no matter how little the order is. He also said he will have a similar set available in a couple of weeks. It is going to be smaller: 100 stakes.

In any case, I find he is an excellent guy to do business and very nice to deal with according to my experience.

@ Lawson: I've been meaning to tell you Lawson, but it is always slipping, I love Marjorie's picture! :thumbsu:

    • You need to be more careful modifying the dial area. How does the bezel/lens fit on the front?
    • Recently inherited a box of my Grandfathers watches, nothing valuable, but some cool and some unique items.  Seiko SQ, my aunt went to Hong Kong in the 80's I believe and picked one up for my Dad and Grandpa. Below are picture, I believe its a 1987 5Y22-8A08. Put a new battery in it and it fired right up! Its probably been a drawer for 20+ years. Looks like he only wore it a few times.   Citizen Quartz 46-9181 with a seven jewel 7961B movement. It had what looked like some moisture damage, and a corroded battery. Swapped it with a 371 but it would only vibrate the second hand. Tried trouble shooting while in the case but eventually ended up pulling the movement out and cleaning with some naphtha and blowing it out and running it on the demagnetizer for a while to free up the movement before cleaning the band and case lightly oiling and reassembling everything. Now its back up and running. Based on the adjustment of the band I believe my Grandmother actually wore this watch, and I made the mistake of telling my wife that. Now its her watch! The most interesting so far is a 72-73 Benrus.  I tried putting a battery in it, but no joy. Ran it on my little tester, no signal from the coil, tried to spin it up. Just the slightest flicker of the second hand. Put some naphtha where I could reach, and tried again to spin it up. Nope. This watch is interesting in that it does not look like the back comes off, there is a window you unscrew to access the battery, a huge SR44. Ordered a crystal puller and will begin disassembly next week.  I was able to find a little bit about this watch though a google image search; BENRUS H010 TECHNIQUARTZ 1972 1st US made Quartz made by Benrus. Using a custom E-block with the step Motor, a power switch and a Moto Chip driven by MotoQ at 32KHz, on modified ETA mechanical movement. https://www.crazywatches.pl/benrus-h010-techniquartz-1972
    • It’s done and the movement feats/aligns perfectly in the case. I stripped off 10mm wide sandpaper and wrapped /sticked it around the pad with double sided tape. I run with 400 grit and finished with 1000 grit. Now I can continue with my build, I’m going to buy a dial and hands. The dial I am considering is a larger diameter 36.5mm than the allotted space 35mm in the case, so I will apply the same ‘technique’ with sandpaper and Dremel/drill. Thank you @RichardHarris123, @AndyGSi and watchrepairtalk community for your help.
    • As you're in the UK I suggest you look at Cousins for screwdriver sets as they've never cause me any problems. The key is the right blade, dressed correctly to suit the screw. https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/cousins-swiss-style-sets-rotating-stands https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/value-screwdriver-sets-wooden-cases https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/cousins-swiss-style-flat-stainless-steel
    • It's difficult to tell because of the dial ring but I expect it's the highest hand version they do know as a 'H6' The only way to be sure is to remove the hands and dial and measure the cannon pinion.
