Bent Balance -Out of Round

Just cleaned an Elgin Pocket Watch and after reassembling it, it worked great with one exception. The balance wheel is not circular. I do have truing calipers in may be able to true to the round. Woah, I can see where it is out of round, you are on the right path with calipers, make sure staff is tight, your going to have some micro surgery to get it back to normal, patience and steady hand my friend!

I shamelessly stole a few pics from web, in this case, staff was loose, good luck.

I've got a Waltham PW with a balance in a similar state, I have read up on how to straighten it, but I've yet to attempt to tackle it as I need to make a couple of simple tools to help me fix it.

I have tried one to the flat before and did a good job, with some money nor adjustments after the installation. This one looks like someone leaned on it and I may just need to reverse the action. I timed the watch last night and it was dead accurate this morning but running like a dryer with a boot in it.

OK, I fixed it with the wrench from my truing calipers, without even taking the balance off the balance cock. Looks great and has an amplitude of around 270.https://vimeo.com/196203657
