Oiling A New Movement

Recommended Posts

I have a brand new pristine ETA 6498 movement. Still in the plastic box with a stem and temporary crown fitted.

I can oil the various jewels but do I need to. Also do I have strip the movement and correctly grease the keyless works and stem.

What about greasing the mainspring.

Or can I just fit it into the case and run it assuming that it has been correctly oiled at the point of manufacture.

Thanks for any advice.

Picture posted but the lighting isn't what it should be.

Years ago if I needed a new movement it was always ready to go just fit dial and hands put it on the timer and all done. Today I would think it should be the same, besides wind it a little you should be able to tell if its dry, look at the top plate jewels does it look as if its been oiled, I think you'll find it has, the same with the action of the balance, if its looking good and has a good action I think your be OK.
