Hello everyone.  My "other half " was watching a film that I couldn't stomach, so I  remade the bed.  Only took 3/4 of an hour, tangled up in sheets, dovet covers, I really struggle.  Foreign languages, forget it, respect to all that can.  I  have some German friends, they  gave up before me. Hehe.  My handwriting is appalling, I'm dyslexic but I  still find it odd, since I  must have  fine motor skills.  

So what are you  bad at?  This is only a bit of fun, not a poor me.

I am a numeric dislexic have problems remembering numbers but I can remember my Dads car plate from the 50s brothers army number  and most of my car plates  thro 70, 80, but mental maths is crap.  I made a living as a Computer Engineer , and can repair most things. DIY skills are very good. Just the bloody numbers. Also crap at dancing and darts.

Also forgot music and singing absolutely no musical talent at all.

...remembering the name of a certain very hard watch crystal. Every time I try to explain to someone that there are three types of watch crystals, acrylic, mineral, and... and... and... sorry can't remember it now. It naturally exposes me as a liar after declaring myself deeply interested in horology.

Handwriting. My handwriting is terrible. Always has been. I don't think it has improved since primary school.

And if you think Chinese words look like chicken scrawlings, you haven't seen me write in Chinese.

I find that kind of strange, a logical mechanical mind such as yours. I know that certain aspects of my experience in construction directly transfers into watch repair.

My missus is the same with numbers, crap at maths but can remember my first car number plate 40 years ago and dozens of old phone numbers.

Thats me, my writing is appalling. I haven't done grown up 😅 joined up writing since school. I write everything in capitals, any other way seems unnatural to me.

I know what you mean. My D I Y is rubbish I have had a picture I put up fall off the wall. I'm no good at wallpapering, it rips and I get in a hell of a mess. Just before Christmas I had someone decorate my kitchen, bathroom and hall way. In February I'm having the sitting room and bedroom painted.

So true @Neverenoughwatches. I  never wash the car, I can pay someone else to do it. My hand writing has got worse, if that's possible.  Since word processing has been available, I avoid writing anything but hand.  Most of my DIY skills are good but painting and decorating, my other half won't let me pick up a paintbrush, great!!!

I'm really bad at wrapping presents, to the point that I just put them in a bag and the job's done, which is strange because when I was a mechanical engineer/tinsmith I used to clad MDF kitchen units with stainless steel after shaping the stainless using a press brake. Maybe it's not having the patience to wrap them, but again that's strange as I have loads of patience when servicing watches.

Oh my, I am exactly the same, I have known people for years and still can't remember their names no matter how hard I try, word association , rhymes...nothing works. My wife was a teacher and had her new class of 30 kids memorised in a few days, but I can't even remember the name of the person sitting 3 desks to my left. I'm also the same with kitchen cupboards, I empty the dishwasher after dinner every night and still have to try 2 or 3 cupboards before I find the one where the red plates go. But, I can still recall formulas from physics classes that I haven't used since my A levels, it's strange the way the mind works. My other failing is that I am very messy - I can sit at a clean desk and within seconds it's carnage, it's like the weeping angels in Dr Who, I look away and look back and it has somehow managed to become messy.

Finally there is gardening, I just don't get it. I appreciate a nice garden, but I just can't bring myself to cut grass that is going to grow back, or pull weeds that are going to be replaced with new weeds. I am more than happy to take the time and effort to fix things, and go the extra mile to find a permanent fix. I just can't bring myself to do something which will count for nothing in a few days/weeks. I have tried to tell myself that its the journey not the destination and the joy is in the doing , not the result....but I still find myself cursing under my breath "this is such a waste of my time....why can't someone invent grass that stops growing at 2 mm?!?!?!" 🤣

      I think someone else has though. Some where here using a modified perspex sheet. I may be wrong i may be right , i think it involved fitting the arbor to a pin vice. I dont have experience of the bergeon winders, are the handles not interchangeable ?

      Never tried dial dots, i always considered them as a bit of a bodge.  You are adding something that was never intended to be there. I wonder how the adhesive reacts to any part of the movement, hot summer heat and i think things might turn sticky. Most adhesive backed stuff has a tendency to soften and slide around so it may spread, i have used a lot of so called sticks all adhesives in my industry that are just not up to the job. I suppose they get you out of a problem quickly, but how permanently might that be ? I would just explain to the owner that it may or may not work. WWs other ideas are a much more permanent solution but both have their risks . I've tried milling and dial feet replacements, hmm it was ok, ive heard of folk dimpling the face , so that needs care . And i have soldered a few times , all with good results but i am very careful and I practiced it a lot.
