Electronic Wittnauer - Broken Dial Feet -

Recommended Posts

I spotted a cool looking Wittnauer diver style electronic watch on eBay and said yeah I want that.  Of course it is listed as not working and right off I see two big concerns. First was the bezel ring insert is missing. Second the dial has clearly bee broken off its feet.  So here it is, broken feet and all.   The fee are still in the movement and it does run.  Dial dots? maybe but it looks like there is very little flat surface to use.  Lets see how this goes!

Very interested to see how you solve the bezel issue. I have an old smiths diver that needs one. Too expensive to find a donor for me, and they are like rocking horse dodo.

I found one that is close 35mm * 30mm. The inside measures 30.5 so will have to trim.  but it will cost me more than I paid for the watch.  🙂

I figured i would be doing the same, but nothing new i could find seems anywhere near that close not to notice an adjustment of size. Will you be just manually sanding the inside edge ?

Ithat was my first thought.  won't really know until I get the insert.  but for now the dial is the task that must be addressed first.

used super glue to set the feet back on.  I'm thinking about also using dial spots to help secure the dial in place once on the movement.  Now unto testing the operation of the movement.

this approach has failed.  more resaerch to be done.  good news is the movement run just fine.

Ah I replied to wrong post.   so how does this tool work?  what bonds the foot to the dial?

The tool holds a mill type drill to create a shallow recess for the plate on the bottom of the special dial feet to be glued on to.

How did you use it?

The tool cuts a circle into the dial. The circle is the size of a dial foot. Then you glue the foot using glue of your choice. The secret is the surface area of the foot. The cut is deep enough so that the foot is in the plane of the dial...in principle.
