I just acquired this watch as a non runner and it turns out the problem is that the  roller table is completely missing.  Other than that, the watch looks fine. Plenty of power to the escapement, judging by the ease in which the pallet fork flicks back and forth and the balance wheel is spinning freely with just a flick of the wrist. If I can get a replacement table (I can always fit the impulse jewel if it doesn’t have one) I think I have the makings of a decent project.  The problem is that I have no idea what the model is and what the balance and staff are going to be in order to source a replacement. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi  you might find a mark and number on the plate under the dial. Be aware that Thos Russel  imported movements and put their name on the dial, so not all Thos Russel watches carry the same movement.

Thanks, yes, I understand that Thos Russel is a retailer not a manufacturer which always makes identification more difficult. I’ll check the dial side. I’d checked the movement side but not the dial side. That’s a useful nugget!

I checked the face side and there is nothing other than the numbers “5 90” (there is a space between the two numbers”

Any ideas? Failing that, does anyone have an idea how I could work out the correct sized roller?

Cool name by the way, how apt for a newbie.  Hehe.

64I think I may have found the movement http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&&2uswk&Revue_31 which, if I understand this, means a 2406 balance staff. Looking here https://www.stemandstaff.com/Revue-balance-staffs.eB/s390352p/Revue-balance-staff-31 I see the roller described as “roller 64”. I do not understand what this means? Is it a size, i.e. the diameter of the roller?

If there is no recognisable mark/calibre, post a picture of the keyless work with the setting lever spring clearly depicted,  along with the size of the movement. From there we may be able to find its maker via the Bestfit Books.   Cheers

    • Hi. I doubt you would find an Omega reference number. You will have to measure the holes and pivots, and then order the jewels from a supplier such as Cousins (if you are in the UK). But you will need a jewelling tool to fit them. The other option is to buy a scrap movement and swap the bridges. It's unusual for jewels to be missing like that. It could be that someone has been using the movement for parts and swapping them with poorer quality. Does the rest of the movement look OK?
    • Thanks Andy the 301 battery had leaked slightly which I cleaned out carefully.  I used a 301 battery, but it never worked how do you get the back off if I need to as there is nothing to prise off or turn.  See attached photo with battery compartment open.
    • That looks a nice tool.
    • There's a first time for everything,  broken pivot on a barrel arbor, granted it looks quite small and feeble, in a plate jewel as well  EB 8021N . Been running like that for a while looking at the wear on the plate. Typical all cleaned and ready for assembly, new balance staff fitted trued and poise checked.  Check all the watch parts people before you start cleaning and find the irreparable repair first 🤨. Looks like me and the lathe will be getting reacquainted tonight 🤷‍♂️
    • It could be that the cap jewels are upside down. That could easily put enough pressure on the balance pivot to stop it.
