I am currently I'm the process of servicing a Tissot 784. The incabloc in the main plate for the balance was broken and subsequently led the previous owner to super glue the jewel in place. I thought I found a replacement balance jewel assembly with incabloc but when it arrived it seemed much too large. I measure it with calipers and the largest diameter is 2.15mm. I compared it with the one that I removed and that one only measured 1.9mm at it's largest diameter. I have attached a photo of the part I ordered. Any ideas on where I went wrong? Multiple ebay vendors have this part listed for multiple movements.

Hi  I have attached three sheets in order for you to cross reference the number, a quick look indicates the number on the packet is correct but obviously does not fit. The fact that the old one was broken was this due to wear of hamfisted fitting by the previous attempt at repair, the cock you have may also not be origional.  a pocture of the movement front and back may help. Also have a look at the Ranfft web site for a comparison and further information.      cheers

That’s the lower setting. The upper would be on the balance cock. I’ll go look for some pics of a recent service I did on one of these in the morning. Maybe it’ll help giving a little more detail

Do you know where I can buy this setting? I just need to replace either the shock spring or the entire setting with shock spring.

Not sure where you’d get the shock setting loose to be honest. I was lucky and got an escape wheel for that watch at Cousins, but because it’s a Swiss watch parts are generally a pain. Grsnovi’s suggestion might be a good one.

Is the whole setting damaged or is the spring just missing?

My experience is the Incabloc on these Tissot seem to be a bit weaker that on others as I have personally encoutered around 4 or 5 of the Inca springs. I dont have any issues with Inca on other brands.

You can actually buy the springs itself instead of the whole setting.

Since you know the make/model and jewel setting diameter, they seem to have quite a selection. They've been pretty good answering my questions but I've never gone to them looking for such a specific part.

Looks like shock spring 270.03 is a listed application for the tissot 784. Thanks for the tip! As far as the glue in the incabloc seat i will just have to be thorough in my cleaning and verify under the microscope.

No help but maybe reassuring: had a fairly recent (20yo) Patek manual wind in a few months back with some oddball hole a cap setting superglued in as the Kif spring was broken. Guess they lost the original jewels too. Friend has a box full of envelopes of Kif material so managed to get it right.

Crazy thing is it ran. Very, very poorly,  but ran. That's why my client bought it, "ok it just needs a service!"- and a soak in acetone, haha.

So my parts came in and I pressed in the new setting and now I have a running watch. Thanks for the lead on this.

    • Not a family member, and yes, it no way near as good, as some information got lost from original site and some information got incorrectly copied. The original site is available as iOS app here: https://apps.apple.com/fi/app/ranfft-watch-movements-archive/id6502008939
    • Outstanding, Marc! Your information is really helpful and clears this up, especially given that yours were purchased as sets. Thanks, man. So, it appears I jumped the gun on this one, but I am relieved. I will say, though, that all of my reamers and concave pushers are number-stamped and appear to be of better quality.  Also, the bayonets on my pushers are actually the same color as the steel.  The next thing to do is restore the heads of these pushers with some polishing paper.  Alex at the Watch Repair channel has a nice little video on this.   I appreciate your help! • Just installed it on my iPhone (my only iOS device) and it appears to be intact and functional. I may have to go out and buy myself an ipad just for this app.
    • I have two Seitz sets, one ancient (with the 3mm anvils) and one just old (with 4mm anvils) plus a collection of spare pushers of assorted vintage. Not one of them is marked with it's size. Something which I have found very irritating when I have been using the tool and not returning pushers to their correct place in the tray every time as it means that I have to get the calipers out and measure them. These were bought as sets and collectively I have over 100 pushers so it would seem highly unlikely (if not inconceivable) that they are all cheap knock offs, especially as they are old enough to pre-date the prevalence of the Chinese knock off industry (at least as applied to watch making tools). I therefore believe them to be original Seitz parts. And there is no numbering. The shape of the bottom of the pump pushers is the same as your photo. The only thing that may not be the same is that the slotted insert (looks like a screw but is in fact a bayonet) should be brass. Yours looks the same colour as the steel but that could just be the lighting.
