Hi all, any advice after this single train platform escapement was working then all of a sudden the hands started spinning round, nothing else .as far as i could see thought it might be the clutch but that seems ok. Thanks

Are you sure you have the depth of the contrite wheel correct? The way of telling this is the movement should still work no matter what angle the movement is in, it should still work up side down.

It sounds as if it is more likely to be the pallet stones as already mentioned.

I can think of a senerio for this,  pallets moved after running for a while due to shelac having been lost during the clean.

movement was only cleaned in warm water and the escapement wasn't cleaned at all just oiled

Here's a thought. The center wheel is friction tight I believe held in with a pin that fits in the recess of a spring on top of the center wheel, has the spring worked it's self out part way or all of the way.

Hi oldhippy all i can see is the center wheel has a clutch with a pin through to hold it in place see photo at start of thread do you mean that thanks

Yes that is it. As I said I wondered if the pin had worked its self out as that would cause the hands to wiz round.

checked the clutch it's ok watchweasol wanted some photo's of the stones just going to do that now

Am I missing something? Where's the pallet? this should be where the two pallet stones fit? Rocks between the Balance spring and the Escape wheel...has it pinged off?

Me too somethings missing. The escape wheel will just run with no control.

Hi Willow  I am still of the opion that if you remove the balance complete and expose the pallets and escape wheel you will be able to inspect the interaction of the pallet and the escape wheel locking or not locking as may be the case. the other thing is the engagement of the contrate wheel whick Old Hippy mentioned earlier. If you have bad engagementit could ruin the platform amd the wheel. An other point to check is the contrate wheel tight on its pinion and not slipping.  cheers

yes the interaction with the pallet and the escape wheel is not right the escape wheel is just rocking back and forth when i set the balance wheel in motion never worked on one of these is it easy enough to take apart
