Hello and my new hobby after growing up in the business

Hello.

I grew up with my parents having a jewelry store even before I was born, first in Wyoming, then Missouri.  My Dad was a watchmaker/jeweler.  After his passing, my Mom took over and I went back to help out.  It was the world of the quartz watch and I learned a bit about them but not mechanicals.  After my Mom passed,  I took over and eventually learned a bit more about quartz repair but still avoided mechanicals; it was possible to use some good folks to take this off my hands for reasonable prices so I didn't mess with them.

My Dad gave me a junker to "try my hand at" when I was about 12 and I guess I messed it up so much that was it for my training.  Even so, I think my Dad lost as much on watch repair as he made on jewelry work but it was his passion.

So, I've come to a point where I can't work (back) and am retired so I need something to do besides fishing (which does take up a bit of time).  I have lots of old watches left behind when Dad died and recently started going through them and found a lot of interesting pieces.  In the process of putting some on ebay, I seem to have caught a bit of a fever for digging a bit deeper.  Ir's beyond frustrating; almost like having a store again!  I have a bunch of them not worth anything but they're good "practice pieces".    I found this site while looking for a solution to a stupid move and it has added to the spark.  Please bear with me and thanks for the help I've already gotten!

Welcome to the forum. Enjoy.

Hope the learning curve goes well.

I don't suppose you have a Seiko flyback chronograph in the watches that you have? Movement is a 7016a.

I didn't find any Seikos.  As I recall, Dad did handle them for a brief time but after watchmakers did a great job of showing them to be good timepieces, Seiko made it a big financial investment to be a dealer and they focused on big retailers.  He thought it was unfair to those who helped create the market.

If I do find one, I'll get back but I'm pretty sure I won't.

Sorry.
