Cousins welcomes new spare parts rules for Electrical Appliances

Recommended Posts

A government move to force electrical appliance manufacturers to provide spare parts has been welcomed by Anthony Cousins.

Under new regulations being introduced this summer, manufacturers of goods such as dishwashers, washing machines, televisions, fridges will be legally obliged to make spare parts available for a minimum of seven to ten years.

I presume this will apply to quartz watches, hence Anthony Cousins welcoming this.

The new rules are designed to reduce electrical waste.

Cousins is in a long- running legal dispute with Swatch Group over the provision of parts and a ruling is expected this summer.

That will be the UK adopting the same EU "Right to Repair" rules which already went into effect in the Union.

Consumers associations are pointing out that altough an initial step in the right direcion, these will be very limited. Personally I have no confidence that these will be applicable to watches no matter their nature.
