Balance wheel poising tool repair

I have two of these.  One is in near perfect order.  The other has many chips on the glass jaws--see stock photo.

Can these jaws be replaced?

These things are not that expensive...but this has historical value to me.

No can't be repaired , replacement is not available.

Really? Can’t even reclaim the metal parts and get new straight edge surfaces?

The jaws will be ruby, not glass. It must be possible to re-grind and re-set them, or replace with steel. How, I'm afraid I don't know.

Why can't we use tungsten carbide for the jaws? It should be as hard as ruby and a lot more durable.

Probably it's one of those things no manufacturer will produce because it's going to last forever. 

Another question I have is why is a pivot polisher so expensive while a carbide cutter rod is only a fraction of the price?

You could probably get the surfaces re ground by a professional glass cutter/grinder but would likely cost as much as the tool or a DIY job using a diamond wheel water cooled.
