Hi, just looking for some advice regarding the reversing wheels. I am new to this hobby and have not come across them up to now. Just looking for advice on cleaning and lubrication. Will lighter fluid and ultrasonic be ok for cleaning? I am guessing that they are all metal construction. What about lubrication, would it just be the pivots that require lube? I have 9010, 9415 and D5 available to use. While I'm here is there anything else I need to take extra care with? Everything looks pretty familiar, just smaller than a man's watch. What lube would be best to use on the winding rotor post?Steve.

Wash movement parts with benzine (petroleum ether), U/S or not won't make any difference. Lighter fuel is not an horolological product, is not mentioned in any book or by any manufacturer, is formulated to burn clean and smell good, not to clean, it has been used a lot just because in the past nothing better was cheaply available as now.

Then you can lubricate by dipping  in the same product + 5% 9010. Dry preferably with warm air.

Thanks for the help. From my research I see that benzine is naptha and lighter fuel contains naptha. Any other opinions on that are welcome.

LIghter fluid is ok but check that yours is the good stuff. Put a few drops on a mirror and see if it evaporates cleanly. There will be a bit of a mark on the mirror but if there is whitish film left behind then its low quality stuff. I use Zippo fluid but in Malaysia there are a lot of fakes so I get it from a friend who is a Zippo agent.

If you have an ultrasonic cleaner then by all means use it.

Oiling as per JDM mentioned above.

Naphta based just like motor petrol is, but we don't use motor petrol either, because of its additives and unknown microscopical purity. But petroleoum ether is not made for burning, mainly is used as fats solvent for testing laboratories and other industries where purity has to be guaranteed.

This I have explained very many times, and has been discussed in so many topics, but no matter that there is always some that doesn't want to move from the old habits, read a chemical label (which is notably absent on lighter fuel, at least in my country), or do a per liter cost comparison.

      if you're trying to keep track of conversations scattered all over the message board emails are an absolute must.   looking at the bell icon on the top of the page versus the emails today it looks like I got the correct amount of emails. So making some minor change based on the one of the images up above I started getting notifications again. But at times I still have a suspicion that something isn't quite right. I have some feeling that the message board may delay sending emails until something so seems to be a long delay between when you get your emails just a weird feeling things aren't quite right oh  and then even though I do seem to be getting emails I no longer get notifications of personal messages I don't find that out until I arrived at the message board where I'm pretty sure I used to get notifications of those two. So something is definitely changed on the message board. then for everyone not getting emails you do want to check your spam folder. I have found that sometimes were open up an email the system I use warns me that it thinks the email is evil and bad and I have no idea why he thinks some of the emails are and some are not. But this is actually the program I use not the email system which also has a mind of its own as to what it considers spam so you should always check your spam folder.
