Introduction/ Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am new to the world of watch repair starting last November with a Sekonda 2609HA and after learning to service it on youtube and replacing the balance wheel it was ticking. Since then I have only really looked at Seiko 7009 and 6309 movements. I have now reached a point where I really need to ask for guidance around certain areas of problem. I am also investing over the coming month is some better screw drivers and a time graph as I think I have reached the stage.

Questions -

1) I am awaiting a donor 6309 as I need the balance. Unfortunately I did ruin the previous due to it gaining over 25 mins a day. So await the post on that one, as I will 100% need assistance on where I am going wrong. Issue i have its a fixed stud lever (Dont know the office name) that i cant adjust? I guess that is the issue point.

2) I haven't got an ultrasonic cleaner but will alcohol wipes be ok?

3) What type of Oils do you guys use and for what?

4) I have a Helbros watch that you need to take the glass out to get to the movement. I need to replace it, would you buy the glass so it isn't a tight fit? I will be servicing this when i replace the watch so will post on here to get tips.

Always open to feedback on my future posts.

Thanks guys :)

Welcome to the forum.

I have no idea if this could be the case in your movement but abnormal gaining could imply that the hairspring is magnetised, although for 25 minutes a day it would seem a bit of a stretch.

I started clock and watch repairing as a hobby not much before you but I have never heard of using alcohol wipes as a method of cleaning watch movements. The usual methods seem to involve putting parts into a liquid (there are people far better qualified than me here to advise on this) like horolene or cleaning spirits and gently cleaning them.
