Roskopf Balance Staff

Hi folks. I'm trying to track down a difficult to find balance staff.

It's for a pocket watch circa 1900. It's branded Chronometro Verdad 1A. And I believe the movement is a 21 ligne Roskopf. It's quite pretty. I cleaned it yesterday and it's in amazing condition.

Anyway, the balance staff is broken and a correct replacement seems hard to track down. Note it's a cylinder escapement. I've scoured eBay and balancestaffs.com but yet to find anything correct.

Forgive my terrible sketch but these are the dimensions as precise as I can get them in mm. The total length is a slight estimate because the pinion is broken off!

 

Does anyone know where I might find something that will fit? Or is this going to be a project for my lathe when I finally buy it?!

That's a lathe project. The staff is in 3 parts, the cylinder and two plugs which fit in each end of the cylinder and have pivots on the ends. There were assortments of plugs and cylinders back in the day, but no longer.

You can also search via size. If not and you have a lathe you can purchase batches of balance staffs and modify.

Note: This is no cylinder escapement - its a pin pallet escapement - as Roskopfs had.

Good eye Frank. Probably won't help with the staff search, but much easier to repair or make a regular staff like that.

I stand corrected. It is indeed a pin lever escapement! Thanks for spotting.

I still however can't identify the balance staff.  I will try John senior. Cheers!
