This was a fun project.

Couldn't find a suitable pusher for a vintage Breitling and so I decided to make a new one. The old pushers were made of brass and then chrome plated, but as I cannot chrome plate on brass I decided to use some stainless steel instead.

Full story, more pics and video clip on my blog.

Good fix only problem the vid does not play on my mac.

Checked on both my macs, they seem to show it fine in both Chrome and Safari.

If it still does not work please let me know - I will change the privacy settings at Vimeo to see if it makes a difference:

Nice job Mark, it's more satisfying when it's made by your own hand. I do like that watch!

'tis indeed a lovely watch.

Mark Vid now working Ok. For some reason thats beyond my intelligence it did not work last night. (it might have been watching the footy at the same time!!)

P.S

In your opinion would silver steel also be OK for this repair. As I have been working with silver steel this week and it turns Ok and apparently can be hardened further if needed.

I'm sure silver steel would be fine for this job, but my fear is that is can rust and if it does that could cause skin problems to the wearer of the watch. Yes - I know SS can technically rust, but it is far less likely to do so.

It's inspiring to see a watchmaker who doesn't RND a watch because parts are no longer available.

THIS is the difference between a Watch Repairer, and a Watchmaker.

Bravo Mark! :goodjob:

Good point Mark. It,s that dam learning curve again.

Purchased some Silver steel 3mm round to make a punch for the Platex tool but the Silver Steel is actually  3.3 mm so it needs turning down. Turns OK but went a bit under so will have re-visit again. Getting the recess absolutely (0.15mm) centred is going to be another challenge but I do enjoy the challenge

Hats off Mark, very nice fix and probably a better replacement part than the original! Those are truly amazing skills!

Cheers,

Great craftsmanship. It's great to see parts fabricated from scratch. I wonder if this will become more and more necessary with the Swatch Group restricting the supply of parts? I'd love to be able to do this kind of work someday.
