The Thieving Barstewards!!!

Recommended Posts

If they were to REALLY do it for the air quality they would just ban the said vehicles completely and not just say "pay £12.50 a day and come in"

If a car pollutes it pollutes. End of.

Just another example of money grabbing.

Hey, check this.

I now get charged £210 a year to park outside my own house.

Guess what criteria they use to decide how much to charge me?

How big my vehicle is?

Nope. Its emissions. How in the hell can it be based on emissions when the **BLEEP** thing is parked!?!

£12.50 a day! I was informed a few years ago by the Democratic Republic of London upon the introduction of the low emission zone that if I wished to drive my 2000 Mitsubishi L200 into town I would have to stump up £200 a day! Luckily I work locally. Time to saddle up and move out Rob, I did 20 years ago, finally stopped working there 6 years ago and have never regretted it.

My brother was about to buy a VW Type 2 Bluestar dayvan diesel. Heard about the £200 so pulled out of the deal. Bought a petrol one instead.

Now he's gonna get screwed because he rides a 13yr old Vespa to work.

I agree. Time to leave London behind.

I left London in 2002 and never regretted it.

Crawling four miles down the A406 taking 45 minutes on a Sunday afternoon just to get lunch at the Harvester - no fun at all.

When I moved out spent the first few years commuting on the train, nearly lost it so went on a Suzuki 600 Bandit & put 103,00 miles on it, then a Triumph Speed Four and put 84,000 miles on that, then gave up! Mind you in the summer I could get the trip down to 55 mins (50 miles to Old Street).

    • No that has never been the intention John, why give up something that ticks all the boxes ? all its about is having a backup plan.
    • There is no real alternative to this wonderful site, John is 100% correct in his summation.   Tom
    • The problem is there are no good Solutions. What we really need is a backup for Mark. In other words somebody willing to step up and take his job if for some unknown reason he is unable to continue. Not really an inactive site because if you have an inactive site then why don't we just have an active site instead of run by Mark run by a group? Yes this is the problem with this discussion do we want to take this away from Mark and start our own group? As I said there are no good Solutions and unfortunately with the Internet is everything goes away sooner or later including discussion groups they never last forever. The problem would be even if you collected everyone's email address what would you do if the group was gone? As far as websites go they're insanely cheap to make and set up and have especially if all its only purpose is a place to go in an emergency where it would have a emergency email address to reach out or updates could be posted in case of an emergency. Kind of like a civil emergency you're supposed to go someplace this would be our civil emergency website just in case the unthinkable happens. Otherwise somebody sets up an email address for emergencies you can contact us here. Oh I have a question at least for the people in the UK that are so incredibly concerned about reaching out and contacting each other why don't you just form a physical group that gets together from time to time?
    • Looks great Michael,  just the combination of a damp cloth and iron perplexed me 😅.  Steam will swell the veneer and soften any adhesive underneath. Its amazing what you can do with a little glue, filler and refinishing, good job matey 👍
