  1. Hey all, Here is my first Service Walkthrough for servicing the Favre-Leuba 253 movement. I found it easier to do this in a word processor and save it as a PDF rather than trying to make it into a giant post. I hope that's ok. I welcome any and all constructive criticism of the document. 2. I've had success with stiff bezels by using 3 finger cots - one on the thumb and the others on the index and middle fingers. The thin rubber grips well and doesn't mark the metal. A sticky ball is great for the case back, but I wouldn't care to put much pressure on the crystal - particularly if the watch is old.. Use three on each hand if need be - one hand gripping the case side and the other turning the bezel.

  3. If the stem will still not insert the only thing now is you will have to remove the dial to look at what is not happening or blocking the insert.

  8. Regarding the stem, did the whole stem come out? If it was rusty, there is a chance that the tip has broken off and is still in the movement. To remove the broken dial feet, I think you will have to strip the movement to allow you access with a small punch to push them out.

  9. Hi Roger, that was the first type that I purchased. It's very easy to use, hold the watch over the flat part above the switch and light, press and hold the button while slowly moving the watch away from the demagnetiser to a distance of about 800mm, then release the switch. Sometimes you have to repeat it a couple times to get the correct result, but it does work.

  10. To insert the winding stem it looks like you have to push this while inserting

  11. Hi J Yes for sure, the tools are building up. But will only purchase as needed, afraid of having more than I can handle. There are never ending supply of watches to get fix, once my friends knows about my new hobby. All the dead watches from the closets are coming out, looks like I sure have tons of practice. I do make a point to them that I am still at the Apprentice level :) The very moment now I am assembling a Raymond Weil with ETA 955.412 movement with broken stem and smeared dail due to leaky battery.
