  1. I have a kind of tick list of old watch makes which I'm interested in acquiring as opportunity arrives, and the list currently includes makes like Doxa, Record, etc. It also includes Cyma/Tavannes. Coincidentally, as a description of a Cyma Cymaflex came up on the forum recently, a similar movement appeared on eBay. So I had a punt and got it - hopefully it should arrive by next week. 2. Just uploaded a new video. This one is one of my favourites, an Omega Military watch from the mid to late 40s. It had a broken balance staff, impulse jewel and the pivot on the centre wheel had a groove worn into it. I didn't film the lathe work but managed to get quite a bit under the camera. I hope it's useful to someone. Some pics:

  3. Just had this PayPal email from India of all places. It's a complete load of **BLEEP** as my PayPal account is healthy and running just fine.

  5. I will be carrying out some test cleaning first before I start cleaning a complete movement, I want to get a feel for the machine, and see the results so I know what to expect, and what it can do for me. I hope that makes sense? Yes, I could throw any number of disassembled movements I have ready for cleaning, but I do want to test it out first, my curiosity needs satisfying :)

  6. I figured it would Micky, and proud of your achievement. Very few people would have done such a thorough job! It has been a real labor of love and the results better than the original! Any project in mind? I'd love to see how the parts come out! Please, take some before and after pics. Of course, I understand that cleaner types have a bearing in the outcome and you will probably be experimenting to obtain optimal results...just as I do! Does it ever ends? I hope not since the fun will be over! Cheers, Bob

  7. I knew that new knob would just do it! Only kidding! :) This is an awesome project and the result exceeding expectations...or maybe not?, considering the attention to detail, care, money, time and amount of work and preoccupation you put into it, Micky! Superlative results! All I'm expecting now is for it to lift off and travel to the next galaxy...but then you will be getting the Nobel Price in Rocket Science not in Horology which is not the same thing and not that desirable anyway! Congratulations on a perfect executed restoration and, wow, amazing results! My most heartfelt congratulations, Cheers, Bob

  8. Excellent ro63rto, I was a little confused with all the female talk :) You are almost done then and we will be able to enjoy a picture of your efforts' final product. Isn't it something?! You will be wearing a watch serviced and repaired by you, on your wrist pretty soon! Saluti, Bob

  9. I love it too Will, very nice job and excellent idea. Maybe I would add a .pdf file of the service data as a downloadable option to each if available. That would make it like a repository! Cheers, Bob

  10. Welcome to the forum's DrRock, I have the greatest admiration and respect for the medical profession as they have saved my life more than once. You will find watches to be a never ending interest which can be both frustrating, when a small part disappears into the black hole and very satisfying when you bring one back from the dead as in Marks latest video.

  12. Yes the heater and light should come on when the heater switch it flicked from left to right. The motor is independent and comes on regardless of wether the heater is on or not. Unless the heater is on, then no light appears when the motor is switched on. Hope this helps.

  14. The plate Mark is using is I suspect what I use which is an old Clock movement plate. Another point worth noting is I attended a presentation by a guy who repairs and services watches for a living at a Kent BHI. During the meeting it was asked if you can not purchase a replacement pivot that is scored on say a Rolex what is the alternative. The guy said it is quite acceptable to remove the score from the pivot on a lathe & re-jewel with a jewel that has a smaller internal hole. Exactly as Mark does in this excellent vid.
