Timex Replacement Crowns and Crystals

Hi everyone I recently joined this forum and with the help and advice from you guys Which was excellent I managed to a get a Timex watch going and working brilliantly.

The watches I have all Timex belonged to family members, so I would like to get as many of them going as possible.

The next two I am going to attempt are a Rally style one (M25) and a day/ date (M106) they both require new acrylics and missing stems.

Can you point me in the right direction on removal of acrylics and fitting, bearing in mind I don’t have tools or acrylics or stems.

And where I can purchase stems/acrylics and tools.

Ebay is a good place for Timex parts.

generic replacement crystals can be used.  You just have to careful while measuring and be check the dome clearance so that the seconds hand does not touch the inside of the crystal.   Are the current crystals missing or cracked?  If not they maybe buffed and polished back to a nice condition.

Now the task of the stem\crown replacements.  Timex produced the stem and crown as one part.  Although it is two parts, they are press fitted and not screw on.  This means you can't just replace the stem or crown unless you use a tap and die.  But that is a topic for another post.  Yes, you can find the NOS parts on EBay but from what I've seen very few sellers list them correctly as to which models they are suited for.  For this you need to use the dial code and match it to the replacements parts catalog.

So now that I've made it seem a daunting task, it really is simple.   Just give me the dial codes and I'll look up the information for you.

I can even let you know if I have them in my parts stock.

yes the dial code is at the base of the dial.

Envelope #38 for the crown stem

Envelope #22 for the crystal - but I think it is 30.8MM since I just restored one in similar case.

oldest reference book I have is 1977 and this is 1979.  so I'd have find it in the big catalog.

I use every grade sandpaper  (dry) - follow with super fine paper (wet) - follow with felt charged with Crystal Bright on dremmel.

where do you obtain crystal bright.when i searched it only seemed to available in usa or on amazon and they had run out!B

yes, a polish will work but not with deep scratches.  for that you have to sand down and than buff out

True.but sometimes you can polish them down to a tolerable level.I am always paranoid about sanding through the acrylic.
